  1. I could not do long distance for 5 years. I did it for one, and after realizing how much another 4 years would suck, I decided it wasn't worth it. Also, there wasn't a clear end-date in sight - which makes things even more difficult. I also think it depends on your partner. I had a needy one. I was made to feel guilty when I concentrated on school. We skyped daily and it started feeling like a chore. He also said he'd never move to the States. While I have no idea where I'll end up working in the future, I am not eliminating job possibilities just because of his stupid Canadian superiority complex. I am much happier dating someone local now.
  2. I'm amazed you can get a place for 60K. My studio apartment (~430 square feet) was > 150 K.
  3. That would be nice! My university doesn't really provide many benefits for getting a PGS D - no additional pay than what I would get without it. The only benefit is not having to TA.
  4. How do you get an upgrade? Just if someone declines? Do they send you another letter?
  5. Do we need to send acceptance by snail mail? Their website says phone is not acceptable...how about fax, email?
  6. I have to wait for snail mail. My university didn't inform me of my CGS-M last year...so I doubt they will this year.
  7. Ah, I thought the last line might have varied. I wasn't even close in the rankings. I thought I would at least break top 100...lol.
  8. My letter says it recognizes my high level of academic achievement and strong leadership skills, so I guess it was my research that sucks?
  9. Reading comments here about how much stuff people have done is discouraging, haha. I have one paper, and I'm only 4th author. No real conferences either. I'm hoping the fact that they thought I was CGS-M worthy last year means they might still think I'm CGS/PGS D worthy...
  10. I didn't actually hear from the grad studies department until after I received the letter last year. Crossing my fingers again for this year - I wish the CGS M lasted for more than 1 year!
  11. I heard today that mine was forwarded on. I heard around this time last year too.
