I'm wondering about the campus visit... my email said "Applicants who are accepted into the program will be invited" for the campus visit... it looks like last year they did the campus visit first, then send out acceptance/rejections. Confusing much? @turtle - I think they get a pretty good amount. the funding is AMAZING and their program is pretty damn good too. it might not be nationally ranked now, but i think it will be in the future. also the academic journal they edit is a good reason for applicants to apply. Dallas traffic is not a good reason to apply -

All I know is they are meeting on Friday and the campus visist is March 4-6th. Just wanted to see if anyone else had anything to add or goes against what I've been told. -

acceptance/rejection on the Results Board is now color coded, red for rejection and green for acceptance. This is not helping my day. -
Has anyone else out there applied to SMU's English doctorate program? I'm curious to see if anyone's information is the same as what I've been given...

I'm still wondering about those Berkeley posts. I haven't gotten an email or a website update...

Yes, some of my friends and I used to bust out into improptu singing of "semi charmed kind of life" with one person the reserved "do do do, do do dodo" person. Back when life was simple... My first concert was about my freshman year of high school, but in my defense, I was sheltered as a child and got my first CD player in late middle school. Before that I made mix tapes off the stuff on the radio. Which was not best exposure. And "Jagged Little Pill" was an AWESOME album. -

The first time I got a CD player, Weezer's Blue Album was *the* first CD I grabbed. That was shortly followed by Everclear's So Much for the Afterglow, Matchbox 20's Yourself or Someone Like You, and Third Eye Blind's Self Titled. If that doesn't scream "I grew up in the 90's" I don't know what could. I also have not heard from ANY of the programs... and after hearing about Whitney Houston, my two Bud Platinums are about to be followed by some Tito's shots. I'm saving the Patron Silver for my rejection party. And possibly some karaoke. -

I think when I was a kid I though people in New York/tri-state area really lead lives like THAT. Like there was something inherently better than being from the south. And I was all like, "damn Yankees" at the TV screen, watching Boston Legal or Felicity. Now I'm an adult and I've realized New York isn't all privledged and fantastic, the snow scares me, but then when I read about some of the regulars from New York area getting accepted... there is a little part of me that still says "damn Yankees!" -
Plan B Suggestions
HaruNoKaze replied to tara1936's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
For me (personally) plan A: doctorate (applied, no responses) plan B: JET (applied, first interview in two weeks) plan C: teach at community college (appying) plan D: spend the year doing prep for a second round of applications while focusing on my Tae Kwan Do and general weight loss/health improvements. And read every book I've said I was going to but never did. -

Lolo - I am right there with you. It drives me crazy when I see people getting things and after a hard day at work I have to wonder what bill will be paid this month and which one won't so that I can buy textbooks or pay fees. I think now that I'm older it doesn't frustrate me as much, but I added up the costs of GRE scores, application fees, and textbooks for this winter and in two months I've spent two months worth of my car payment... and so far I've got nothing to show for it! Hopefully I'll get accepted someplace great and everyone will buy me a free drink!! perrykm - If you don't mind me asking, what kind of boots were they? -

I was depressed earlier this week and one of my friends offered to buy me anything to make me feel better... I told him nothing could make me feel better than being accepted or rejected, just some sort of notification. And now that I'm thinking clearly and not so depressed, I realize what a stupid decision it was to turn him down. -
Anybody want to claim/comment on the Berkeley posts in the Results page? Looks like notifications were sent out via email...

If it makes anyone feel any better, my GRE scores were not "matched" with Berkeley and probably never even looked at my app b/c it was incomplete. They said GRE scores don't matter, but if I had called and asked questions sooner, I feel like I might have had a shot. I was blaming ETS when it was Berkeley who didn't match them. All I can pray is that GRE scores really don't matter. In Jesus' name, Amen. -

I'm coping by not working on my thesis, trying to imagine all the possible facial expressions people will make when I tell them I got accepted or rejected, and trying to exhaust myself at TKD class. And obsessing on the forums. -
Congrats. I'm applying to their philosophy doctorate program, but I'm very torn about being an Aggie. But from the sound of it, they made you a sweet offer!!!

I applied and made the cut for first round of interviews. I'm going to the Embassy in Houston in two weeks for my interview. So nervous!!! JET is my fall back plan if I don't get accepted to any doctorate programs. -

Just checked the results page and shows someone got an offer from a program I was going to apply to... the application deadline isn't until feb 14th and they got an offer? *sigh* this sucks... i'd like to be able to say, "at least i've got chicken" but i'm a vegetarian...
