  1. There is an app for that called grad cafe paranoid.
  2. Today I just realized that in my application to Harvard, there is another supplemental data form to fill after your paid your application and submit your materials and I passed that deadline by like 2 months. I just filled in the data form today. I know getting into Harvard is a long shot, but my realization today is just like a slap in the face. I hope this can serve as a reminder for all the applicants to be meticulous about applications. It is not that once you paid and clicked on the submit, everything is over.
  3. I have been admiited to this program. Does anyone know whats good or bad about this program? Does this program provide a good preparation for a career in OR?
  4. I have obtained decent scores for verbal and quantitative sections, but I only got a 3 on my writing section. I am applying for masters in CS or Math this year and I am wondering if it is worth the effort to retake the General GRE just for the writing? I need some honest advice. Thank you!
  5. Hi, I am math major and I am thinking about going to grad school doing research in applied math, probably about differential equations or dynamical system. May I know what is a typical day like doing something like that? Is it mainly lots of Matlab coding or you spend most of the time doing problem solving? Shunji Li
  6. Wow, have such a strong profile. I am applying for OR next year too. Good luck!
  7. I just got my AW score, it was a horrible 3.5. Does it seriously affect my chance of getting into the best schools? I am so shocked!! Can someone give me some advice?
  8. I have taken econometrics, it involves linear regression and stats inference, does that count?
  9. I am applying for statistics/applied math programs in grad school. Below are my profiles, can you help me to take a look and comment on my chances of getting in? I welcome suggestions for other schools as well. My plan is to either get into a phd or to getting into a prestigious master's program. My biggest disadvantage is that I graduate with a 4-year degree in 3 years, so I did not take as many courses as others, the courses below are the courses completed by the end of my sophomore year. What are my chances to getting into the most prestigious programs in applied math/statistics (top 5)? I have not taken real analysis II(measure theory), is that gonna be a big program. I would really appreciate your help, thanks! Undergrad Institution: Carleton College (top 10 liberal arts college) Major(s):Mathematics Minor(s):None GPA in Major: 3.91 Overall GPA:3.82 Length of Degree: I completed a 4 year degree in 3 years. Position in Class: Near top Type of Student: International student GRE Scores: Q:800 V:740 W: Not out yet Courses: Math: Probability, Algorithm, Advanced Algorithm, Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Advanced Abtract Algebra, Advanced Linear Algebra, Topology, Surfaces Computer Science: Data Structure Economics: Price Theory, Econometrics Research Experience: I have done Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations on gravitational waves for my physics professor for two year, hopefully we can get something published before application. Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Dean's list for Freshmen year. Starr Scholarship holder Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Calculus Tutor for one year, Grader for courses like (topology, discrete mathematics, caculus), Mathematica lab assistant. Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: I was ranked 700 in Putnam when I was a freshmen.
  10. Thank you for your advice, actually I am wondering, if I am applying for masters only, will it be easier for me to get in to the best school. Up to now, I find that I don't have a passion for academics, so I thought a masters degree is sufficient to help me find a job, is that true?
  11. I am applying for Operation Research and some statistics programs Below are my profiles, can you help me to take a look and comment on my chances of getting in? I welcome suggestions for other schools as well. My plan is to either get into a phd or to getting into a prestigious master's program. My biggest disadvantage is that I am on an accelerated graduation program, so I did not take as many courses as others, the courses below are the courses completed by the end of my sophomore year.
