I would also wait for a better funding offer, an assistant curator from an internationally recognised gallery told me that your school choice shouldnt matter and that really yu will be judged on your work quality and only lazy curators choose artist for exhibition based on schools. :-/

I like the cooper wire stuff to, the one I laughed at was 'device' haha

I really loved seeing your work, I know very little about sculpture but it was nice the attantion you had paid to have them photographed and well lit. I was laughing at a few too!

is this the scholarship? or extra to that?#

I think I'm going to be happy there, at least I won't have to worry about money and can concentrate on my work. Thanks!

Hi everyone, here's my choices instead of writing scholarship etc I've just basically put how much of a tuition reduction and how much extra I'd need for the rest (other fees living stipend) these are rough figures and just 1st year! Calarts - 25% tuition reduction - approx $49K SFAI - 50% tuition reduction - approx $37K SVA - 5%ish Approx $55K ASU - 75% ish Approx $20K I have an external scholarship worth up to 25K and I'm not eligible for a loan, this is a no brainer yeah? (hate that term)

Decision: UNC-CH, SUNY Purchase, or Glasgow School of Art?
cxxxxxx replied to lawrencegl's topic in Visual
oops didnt see t=the stipend with UNC-CH I wouldn't accept a position in another country without knowing about any funding if I already had a free ride from a reputable university at home. Unless it was imperative to my work that I travel elsewhere to make it! Although GSA is a very good school.- 6 replies

can anyone esle who got a scholarship offer from CalArts tell me if thats from the FAFSA application or seperate and if it is seperate then does that mean financial aid is something in addition to that? totally clutching at straws here..
-
Even if I was eligible this still wouldn't be enough!
-
Well that's my dream crushed. Financial info received and the rumours are true.

noooo

I also wish to stay debt free and can really only accept a place where I won't need to take out a loan. I better add Arizona State University to that list, although I expect their packages for in state or US applicants may be higher. Arizona State University (50% tuition + merit scholarship - -International student)

I'm really startingto wish I'd applied to these places I herar about good financial packages like Yale and UCLA but I keep forgetting I'm not from the US and being international makes me ineligible for this amount of support, boo.

did you get a financial offer from sfai? if you did do you mind if I ask what it was? thanks!

If anyone wants an update I've been accepted to the 4 schools I applied to : SVA SFAI, CalArts and ASU although I can't make any decisions until the final financial sruff has been sorted. ASU has offered me a fairly attractive package (does anyone know how many MFA photograpjy students they have each year?) and SVA have offered me a pretty tiny one, I'm still hoping for a finacial miracle from CalArts and as yet no word from SFAI yet. Its still anyone's game really.

SVA is $1000 for graduates which is higher than the average which seems to be around $500. anyone know why that is? I doubt I will be paying anything until I hear if I have a place or not.. Arrgh.
-
Haha well I guess only you can know what's best for you! I hope you get the funding, if it's any consolation I'm probably going to have to turn down my dream school AND go home after 2 years!
-
Wow! If definitely go for it! It sounds amazing, 2 years tuition and living costs would be a dream!

Do Pakistan have a Fulbright which fully funds study? in the UK they only offer up to $25,000 for the first year only, but I believe this may have changed this year. Also I don't think they order anyone to do anything. They advise you to apply to a range of schools based on what you want and what they thing you are likely to get into and what they think are likely to be funded. I had no problem and they were happy to let me go ahead to apply to CalArts and SVA, in fact I half wish they had been stricter on advising me on programs as now I'm in a difficult position of having an offer from my 'dream' school but no funds to support it. Again though, it doesn't bother me about returning to UK and if I was from a different country I would be considering ways of staying after I;d graduated. Are there a lot of people applying for MFAs as a route to find work/career in the US?
