  1. I'm confused, can someone explain the reasons behind the GRE exam, I thought it was a kind of qualifying exam and a higher scroe could help your application. Yes its not a requirement for an MFA but as I had in the past studied a MSc which I left to study art I thought it was worth my time to take this test hoping it may show dedication and also should I have the option of taking credits/modules in other subject areas in order to help my practice I may need to show my abilities. Does anyone know the exact date of the 'real' results being available? I don't mean to make light of the examination, its tough! I realise that the slight difference of 20 or so points could make all the difference in some applications. I am concerned about my verbal as an MFA requires a significant writing ability and a Q score significantly higher than my V score could raise some questions.
  2. wow, first I have to say, to me, it seems bizarre to have thought about the scores this much! I understand where you are coming from but wouldn't we all be better off devoting our time to revising further rather than hypothesising on possible score calculations? I bet the guys at GRE would have a good laugh at this. Although, obviously, you are going to be getting a much higher score than me! I agree though, how else to pass the time... when I took the test I had no idea the scoring wasn't finalised and it completely baffled me after 3 hours to be given an estimated score. I like to imagine the GRE examiners all in lab coats in some high tech facility where everything is chrome ad polished with some giant computer spitting out printed results like confetti... I

  6. Hello, thanks! I'm from the `UK and am applying to 4/5 art schools for MFA wit the assistance of IEE/Fulbright hopefully. I did the test as I thought a strong result might help my application but I have to option not to mention my test scores as its not a requirement for any of my courses. Do you think my score will be worth mentioning? I'd rather not mention it if it will work against my application.
  7. I have done the electronic test and you are allowed to take extra breaks but the ime doesnt stop so if you needed to eat you could klet them know and have something available just outside. I ate a banana on my break but had to be escorted to my locker and was watched when I took it out and ate it. there was someone every 10 minutes entering the room to check on myslf and another person so I think if you were feeling like you needed to eat there would be opportunities to make it known.
  8. hi,I'm an arts graduate (fine art photography) and have taken the gre as I had the opportunity to. I did my test today but was baffled by the scoring and got V: 550 - 650 Q: 650-780? I think these are what I have although I'm not totally sure. I only had a week to prepare for the exam and like I said as an artist I haven't done much math or verbal exercises for around 15 years. I'm worried my verbal is really low so I look a bit odd, especially since my quant is higher? can someone please explain how on earth this is a score? am I right to assume they haven't calculated the scoring system completely? This is the weirdest test result I've received ever, its not like there aren't definite answers!

  10. thanks for that link, I had a read it looks goo. I recently had my interview for UK-US Fulbright postgraduate scholarship and I'm afraid I found it quite hard, maybe because my chosen research area has some unusual issues surrounding it. However, I am really glad I applied and the whole proces has been a learning curve, reaffirming my self belief and beginning to understand what sort of person I am and want to be. Also, now I have done the interview I'm pretty sure I will never be as nervous interviewing again! Good luck to everyone else, fingers crossed for all of us!
  11. did you get in? I'd love to know about your interview!
  12. Hi Meerkat, what did you apply to study?
  13. Hello! I am from the UK, I applied a few months ago to study an MFA in the US. Still waiting to hear back... Is there anyone else from the UK waiting too or anyone who has successfully applied for an Arts masters from the UK or europe? I've spent hours trawling the internet this site is a fantastic resource.
