  1. That's awesome! Congrats! I got an email saying they're still reviewing funding sources, but to contact them if I am pressured by any other school. Lol. However, I got in CM's SLA program so at least I'm more calm. Well, until my #1 gets back to me!
  2. It looks like 2 people got an acceptance from Harvard and someone from UMD SLA program. Congrats to them! Sadly, nothing for me thus far! >.<
  3. Nooooope. You? How did your interview go?
  4. This week has been SO slow and torturing!
  5. @Red! Sorry, I was gone for the weekend. I think the interview went well. It was with 3 of the faculty, not bad. You? Congrats on the Columbia acceptance!
  6. Yeah, Georgetown is taking a RIDICULOUSLY long time. UUUUUUUURRRRRGHHHHH This is killing me! We're halfway to March already! >.<
  7. Read The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. A lively book... lol
  8. Good luck, Ling304, and everyone else! @Red: I know! It was super tough choosing a time, so I'm getting someone to watch my class during that time on Friday. I'll let you know how it goes!
  9. @Reddawg: YES! I just got mine! I'm going to make it ASAP (Friday). You? Good luck!!!!!
  10. So sorry to you all... but keep your heads up! I'm a firm believer that when one door closes, another one opens! I believe that getting an internship will highly increase your chances. I know that for those of you doing applied linguistics, CAL (Center for Applied Linguistics) in DC has an excellent internship program (I did it last summer). That, or live abroad for a semester to really immerse yourself/acquire a new language to add under your belt. Or maybe teach for a year? That way, it also shows you are capable of becoming a TA/potential professor? This wait it KILLING ME. Still no response from ANYWHERE!
  11. Story of my life.
  12. According to the results search, Georgetown should have sent something by now. The wait is killing me. What is taking them so long!?!?! >.< And yes, congrats to all those with wonderful news this week! Hopefully the week will end on a pleasant note...
  13. So, in a futile attempt to get my mind off of the fact that I have not heard from ANY OTHER SCHOOL, I decided to start this topic. Feel free to chime in! What has been the NERDIEST linguistic moment you've caught yourself in? I would have to say that a top one for me is when I was teaching my 9th/10th graders grammar (English lit teacher), and one student asked whether the word "apple" in "apple pie" would be considered an adjective... to which I went off on a syntactic rant and drew trees all over the classroom! LOL That, or when I began transcribing different words and explaining phonetics to prove to my honors students that "the thought" is NOT alliteration. That, and having discussions with every friend that has a baby (wow, your baby is HOW OLD and is already producing interdentals?), or correcting my friends that complain about Spanglish being "bad Spanish"... yeah. I'm curious to hear yours!
  14. Ah! I just got mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I am really excited. I was feeling rather melancholy, since I had only received a rejection. But finally! A break!
  15. Congrats! Was it through email or phone call?
  16. Historically, Georgetown has been known to let their applicants know this week (or next). *SIGH*. We'll see. This is way too much anxiety for me! UMass people, I'm assuming you're talking about the (general) linguistics department, right? Not the Hispanic linguistics/lit section? Congrats to everyone!
  17. Quick question: Are you at Harvard?
  18. Welcome, Reddawg! Sorry about the rejections, but congrats on the invite! I hope they keep coming!
  19. Ling304! How did it go? I would have crossed my fingers for you today! LOL How do you feel you did? What did they ask?
  20. Before, I used to stalk my mailman for Amazon.com boxes. Now, I guess I've matured (or immature-d LOL) a bit.
  21. Harvard peeps: I emailed the graduate director yesterday politely asking about the status of my application. I received the following response: "The committee is meeting these two weeks and some replies may begin to be sent out in two weeks from the Graduate School." So, does this mean that the interviews aren't mandatory? I don't know what to make of this response. I guess I'll just tell myself that if I don't get an interview date, then I should just pretend I didn't get in. Then, if I do, it'll be a pleasant surprise. LOL Congrats and good luck to all!
  22. Congrats, busbus and Ling304! I hope to hear from mine soon! >.< Good luck on your Harvard interview! Let us know how it goes!
  23. When/how did you hear back exactly? Is it updated on your website yet? I keep checking but nothing. ARGH. LOL Congrats, though.
  24. Nope, not at all. Guess that's not a good sign. :-/
