Unamuno, congrats! For UIUC, did you get accepted into the SIP program or general linguistics?

"Professor XYZ, this is a letter to remind you that my recommendation letter is due in 35 days, and my application status still says it's missing your submission." LOL you should! Make sure you get lots of shots of insomniacs with coffee mugs!

Wlkwih2: I know! I'm dying! I received a call from MA yesterday and my heart stopped thinking it was Harvard. It ended up being someone else. :''''''( I am taking my phone charger to work. It's going to be a looooooong week! Best of luck to those who have (and have not) heard!

"OMG, how have I not heard back from any school yet?! Yes, I am PERFECTLY aware that I submitted my application 2 days ago..."

My heart stopped...

Actually, that's great advice. Thanks! -
So, I don't know about you guys, but I talk myself down from some school ("yeah, I'll never get in there") as some sort of defense mechanism to not fall into a deep depression (I guess?). So even though Georgetown is my #1, Harvard is in my top 4. And as much as I made myself believe that I didn't care if I got a call from them, today, when I got a call from a number in MA, my heart stopped. Then I realized it was someone from Amnesty international. I almost cried. So, has this happened to anyone else? Does taking yourself down from a school actually work?

I didn't think waiting would be this hard.

I feel you all! I thought getting all of the applications in was the tough part. LOL Ah, what a fool I was... It's SO frustrating to see everyone getting responses already from their schools, yet all of my schools like to keep me in suspense apparently. Even the ones with December 1st deadlines. Is that legal? LOL >.< Good luck to you, SLC-LV! My fingers are crossed for you! -
Hello, all! I apologize if this has been answered previously, but I did not find in the forum when searched, and I may just be too anxious/out of my mind to see it. I see some people obsessively refreshing the website, awaiting their school's decision. Would a school update their site without emailing the candidate first? In other words, should I be checking my website status daily rather than just waiting for an emaii or an envelope? Also, what website are you all checking? The one with which you applied (like applyyourself)? Will it go from "submitted" to "accepted" or something? Thanks... I am fully aware it's a stupid question, but I just need something to keep my finger from pressing that "refresh" button on my email. I am starting to carry around my iPhone charger, since it's always running out of battery now! LOL Best of luck to you all, and thanks again! CZ

What's the difference between shortlisted and accepted/rejected?

Applied linguistics is the other one, and I think computational. According to the results survery, Harvard should be next week (the first week of February). Georgetown is all over the place, and it's the one that I'm anxiously waiting for. :-/ This is killing my nerves!!!!

One of my personal statements was written at my (soon to be) sister-in-law's bachelorette party cruise. I'm sure that one will impress the faculty!

Posting your acceptance on facebook
Triple Tall Cappuccino replied to Mathk1d's topic in Waiting it Out
So I guess Google+, with the awesome "choose which circle you want to tell" feature is out of the question? LOL, I keed. I barely use Google+. And FB, well, it's my guilty escape when I don't want to think about the fact that I have yet to hear from any school ("School Y's deadline was YESTERDAY! What the hell is taking them so long!?"), and I would much rather read about my friend drinking a can of Coke Zero than seeing the Results Survey. *sigh* In any case, I agree with most posters that you should not post sensitive info on FB, and my family always taught me to never announce things until they are 100% certain. With that said, I think I will probably post MY final decision* when it happens, and do crazy texts/emails/calls to everyone who already knows. *final decision may also include slashing of wrists if all schools reject me. -
Dude, seriously... it's WAY to early for me to be having anxiety over receiving a response from ANY school. Can it be March already?
-
Congrats!!!!!!!!!
-
Congrats to those who have heard! I also saw that most schools start getting back to the applicants late Jan/early February. THE TORTURE!
-
Thanks! I know... it's a bit frustrating to see all of these people get their acceptance/rejection letters, and here we are. Waiting. LOL. Tonight, my heart stopped a little because I received an email from Georgetown (my dream school). Then I saw it was just an automated email saying that I could check my application status online (whether it was complete or not). Mind you, the deadline was over 3 weeks ago. >.<

The psychological joys of applying to grad school
Triple Tall Cappuccino replied to milara's topic in Waiting it Out
Being a full-time high school teacher, ENC 1101 professor, and applying to 8 programs definitely caused intense anxiety attacks and severe irritability. LOL. However, I only have 2 more applications to go, and I am SO glad I got winter break to "relax" and finish my apps. This all better be worth it. It's weird... I don't know if I'm the only one, but there are times that I feel completely confident that I will get in to my dream school (and have daydreams of how I'm going to celebrate, etc), then there are times I feel completely sure that I won't get into any school, so I start dreading how I will find out, then I have times where I hope I get into at least one. My husband is starting to wonder if going for my Ph.D. is the best thing for my health... -

Last call ...It's way too early for me to be feeling anxiety over admission/rejection emails. OMG, this is going to be a LONG spring.

when is the best time to start applying??
Triple Tall Cappuccino replied to ah233's topic in Applications
I always believe that the earlier you start, the better it looks! Admissions will definitely perceive you as a candidate that has his/her stuff together! Good luck! -
I agree. I actually just finished replying to my POIs. Something short, sweet, and polite. It's always good to thank them for their time. As a previous poster mentioned, they didn't need to reply!

Am I reading too much into professors' email responses?
Triple Tall Cappuccino replied to cg988's topic in Applications
Seeing how my own professors were in my MA, like everyone has said, they are very busy (and some unorganized) people. The fact that they politely replied is great! Don't lose hope!
