  1. Thanks! I hope you're right!
  2. I just accepted Buffalo and turned down WVU. Now I've got the blahs. I am very excited about Buffalo, though. Yay!
  3. LOL guys it's too late for me to edit "goo advice." I mean, right? :/ You'll make a great decision!
  4. Thank you. This is a goo idea.
  5. Everything evens out. Even gradcafe comments. The thing is that Buffalo has great people, too. AIUHFOIASJDNAMPIDOAMSFIOSDMGPOISDFJKOIDAKSD<OASP<DASD/
  6. So... is there like, some deadline soon by which I have to decide? SOMEBODY DECIDE FOR ME. I will decide for you.
  7. The word is: Cornell. There are some schools that offer than MA/MFA. It's not. My understanding is that virtually all of the PhD in Creative Writing programs require traditional research in literature as well. You don't end up with two degrees, though.
  8. Seriously, come on. Happiness.
  9. haha "invisible wait list"! Congrats, though!
  10. LOL Colorado... they really aren't in any rush to send rejections.
  11. Yay! Ecocrit heaven! Good luck!
  12. I hope you're right! No matter my choice, though, I'll have a lighter load teaching than I do now, so maybe I'll be kicking back and relaxin' (ha!).
  13. Current "what if": What if next year that isn't true, and all I can think about is how I picked the wrong school? WHAT IF?
  14. I am living in a massive "what if" spiral of uncertainty. I keep deciding on Buffalo, spending 10 seconds thinking about How Great It Will Be, and then somehow drift back to WV, and How Great It Would Be, and then I get sad and kind and confused. It seems that I am leaning toward Buffalo but honestly with only about 51% certainly. If WVU offered as many great seminars as Buffalo or if Buffalo had the prison book project, it would be so easy!
  15. I am waitlisted at Rochester as well and I have not heard anything either. I will be taking myself off the list when I make a decision in the coming days, however. If I am accepted before then, I am about 98% sure I will decline. Good luck! I hope you get the spot! It looks like a wonderful program.
  16. LOL @ thestage downvoting my gif explosion of celebration for gwwg. What a terribly rotten party pooper.
  17. I know I congratulated you in another thread, but THIS IS SO PERFECT. I have been waiting for you and gwwg to really complete this application season. I can't imagine how the wait was for you two!
  18. CONGRATS!!! I feel like this was supposed to happen like forever ago. You deserve this.
  19. To me, it sounds like Vanderbilt accepts exactly the number they can fund, then they have a small list of alternates, and then a traditional waitlist. It isn't that different from programs that accept 20 for 10 spots.
  20. I would totally look it over, and I bet a bunch of other posters would as well, but I don't work in Victorianism. I honestly don't think that is super important to get some basic feedback, though.
  21. This x a million. Don't do that. My gosh, don't do that. There are people you could pay to look it over, but they should NOT be people at the schools you want to attend. Honestly, a bunch of us on grad cafe would probably do it for free.
  22. I've turned down two offers (Wayne State and Lehigh), but I'm now really, really struggling to decide between WVU and Buffalo. I've visited both, and both were wonderful. Everything that is great about one program is countered by something that is great about the other. Allow me to demonstrate just how much everything is evening out by one anecdote: both Morgantown and Buffalo are equidistant (to the mile) to my hometown. On my visit to Buffalo, I didn't get as much of a chance to talk individually to professors as I did at WVU (and this partially my fault), so I also feel like I'm comparing with incomplete information. Likewise, I visited WVU alone, so I didn't get to talk to anyone else from the potential incoming cohort. I know that some people might think I'm crazy for being so torn between programs of such different rankings, but I'm not, I swear, and somebody needs to adjust those rankings STAT because WVU is wonderful.
  23. So... this is what most academic websites look like now: I would say most people do have have personal webpages anymore. LinkedIn and Academia.edu are both better options.
