  1. I am going to get a dog (Keeshond breed) and a Le Creuset dutch oven. I am also going to go to Thailand, Egypt, Australia, and Russia.
  2. Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you are being recommended for admission to the Department of Computer Science - Master of Science (MS) program at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign beginning with the Fall 2012. With successful completion of the MS program, you can petition and with departmental approval continue on for the PhD program.
  3. Acceptance letters are beginning to make their way to students (as we can see from the survey). Instead of an acceptance, did you get a rejection? How are you holding up? University of Illinois-UC offered me an unfunded Masters instead of a funded PhD. It was terrible to get the email, particularly because it said that I had been "accepted". Naturally, this is what my eyes gravitated to first. I rapidly fell from extreme elation to intense depression. I'm worried that this is a sign of things to come, and I'm about ready to quit my job and run away to Mexico. It's upsetting that a 330/340 GRE, excellent GPA, and 3 extremely good letters with a year+ of solid research experience isn't even sufficient to get me a spot on the wait list! I certainly always knew that 100% rejection was a possibility, but the prospect of having it become reality isn't exactly pleasant. STAY STRONG!
  4. Music and art. Computer technologies are my true love, but if I could just be successful at art I'd be a very happy person.
  5. I applied to no backups, so my greatest fear is being rejected everywhere. I am very worried.
  6. Wow, I'm really sorry! That must be so frustrating!! I have no doubt that you will fare well with your other schools; you seem very intelligent and well-written. Don't let this get you down. I know that you'll be at Michigan, Yale, or Duke by next fall.
  7. ETS's prep gives you the best idea. Kaplan's verbal was not even close to the exam.

  9. The test date is formatted as month-year, not day-month. Did you try it that way?
  10. I had a dream that the University of Maryland accepted and funded me. Oh, how I wish this will become true.
  11. @Spriteling, at least take a few months before you start your program to have fun and travel. I also graduated at 20 (turned 21 shortly after) and took a year off. I'm applying for graduate schools now at age 22, and I'm happy I didn't go straight into school from college. However, I do feel that even a month of true freedom will make you feel better.
  12. I just got all of my apps submitted--there was a lot of drama and scrambling, but all that matters is that they're in. Luckily I love my job, so the wait will be easy.
  13. I think you should be annoyed because ETS gave a 10-15 day window for your scores. If they are going to establish themselves as a huge part of grad school applications, they absolutely need to be on time.
  14. 22 now (23 this summer), and it is the perfect time in my life to get a PhD. I seriously want nothing more than an acceptance letter.
  15. Who else spent over $1000 on applications? My school charges $13 to send out a transcript, I applied to 10 schools, I took the GRE twice, and I sent out my GRE scores twice. OMG.
  16. People who don't know anything about econ grad school quant requirements should seriously refrain from commenting on these posts.
  17. http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/GRE/pdf/GREmathPractice.pdf Hope this helps!
  18. Mine isn't working for some reason. Has anybody else had an issue?
  19. Ok, settled it: The University of Michigan School of Information recently sent you a postcard and an e-mail with a link to a personalized Web page that introduces our Master of Science in Information, Master of Health Informatics, and Ph.D. programs. The academic major and high undergraduate GPA you reported when you registered to take the GRE suggest that one of our graduate programs might be a good fit for you. We hope you'll take a moment to see whether these programs match your interests and goals.
  20. I don't think AWA is useful at all and should be abolished. Their criteria for determining what makes a 'good' AWA score has never made sense to me because I am a very concise writer who judges essays by their content and logic (NOT just length and flowery words/sentences). I got a 5.0 and I was pretty proud of my performance. You would think that my 98th percentile V (ugh, still mad that I didn't get 99) would mean that I'd get a higher A, but whatever. I wish ETS would explain the grading system!! From what I've heard, their review is just a piece of paper that says 'DEAL WITH IT'. It's probably for the best that you didn't get one.
  21. My Q scores were a bit lower than I'd like, so I'm really happy that I already registered for an exam on November 28th. Is anybody else scheduled for a retake this cycle? What are you doing to prep?
  22. Ok, my scores are showing an 'error'. Maybe this means that they're updating them.
  23. 11:15 pm for me, so the forum auto updates for your zone.
  24. I'm refreshing the gradcafe forums obsessively for this reason!!
