Hey thanks guys! Oseirus, 12 mitzvot is a lot! But one mitzvah that will count for two on shabbat is having sex (with a husband or wife for the purpose of makin babies), so if you are in the situation to earn this DOUBLE MITZVAH in the next 24 hours, you'll save a little bit of time for the other 10 mitzvot you plan to do...

@Pugsley, I don't know, I'm so overwhelmed at the moment! Rutgers has been my top choice because I felt this very real connection with my POI and she felt similarly. At the same time, there's almost no doubt in my mind that NYU offers more money, and since I live in Brooklyn, the commute to New Brunswick was going to be a huge bummer and stress factor. I'm going to take it day by day, speak to my New School professors about it (who I would literally be lost without), and go from there... I definitely want to talk to my POI at Rutgers about this and hear what she says.

HAHA Lureynol, remember just about a month ago we sat in Tea Lounge and discussed our fears and anxieties? And now look at us! Both of us got into great programs! Wow. (Yes grad cafe, Lureynol and Monster met in person and know each others real names and faces! TEEHEHEHE)

thanks guys! this board has been such an amazing resource and support system! thank you all!!!

I JUST GOT INTO NYU!!! FULLY FUNDED!!! For those of you still waiting from them, I should tell you that I applied to the dual program with History/Hebrew Judaic Studies, so we wouldn't be hearing the same day necessarily. this just made my weekend
-
ME! I'm unsure and out in the cold. and probably will be for a while... Rutgers said not to expect to hear anything til April, still waiting on NYU PhD and a few MA programs. It's okay. I know I'll have my options with MA programs, and what happens happens. Praying for NYU and Rutgers, though. Well, at least the link in my signature is funny enough to distract me for a few more days. I highly recommend it. (Netanyahu posted it onto his official Facebook page. I guess he and his media team have a sense of humor?)
-
Yes, NYU is really taking it's sweet time, isn't it? Apparently my dual program will take even longer. Not cool...
-
Oseirus, where'd you get those funny skills?
-
Goldie, feel free to tell Rutgers that you met this friendly monster on the internet, and she doesn't bite too much. Good luck with the thesis. Hard to stay focused when good things are happening and the weather is beautiful! (70 degrees in NY today, what the hey?)
-
Congratulations with being done with the process, Goldie! Good luck with all your endeavors!

Hey guys, is anyone going to Chicago MAPSS Prospective Students Weekend? Would love to meet some Grad Cafe folk there. I have to leave early for Passover though . BOOOOO. (Jewish Girl Problems.)
-
I forget now... Anyone else here waitlisted at Rutgers? If yes, pm me! Today is relatively quiet!
-
yeah, and Rutgers does not rank, but I must rely on some other Jewish/Israel/Mideast historian rejecting them. not sure which situation is better! controlled flaunting - i like it
-
exactly what i did, wikichic! we are totally on the same wave length. i also had 3 profs from my UG institution read it, so i feel confident about it...
-
so I ended up doing a very similar thing - writing to them that i would like to know the timeline for decisions at this point, so i can make a decision about whether or not to attend an open house weekend in early april. i hadn't asked them prior about when I should expect to hear and they hadn't offered that info, so I am generally curious and in need of knowing. (and in the process, they are now aware that i have other programs interested in me, though i still made it 110% clear that their school is my FIRST CHOICE! because it is...)
-
yawn, today is boring. how about some hungover owls? http://hungoverowls.tumblr.com/
-
Hey, have any of you been encouraged to use other offers as a "bargaining tool"? my UG advisor and other profs from there really think i should flaunt what I got, but I'm so nervous that it'll go wrong. You know? What if they think "well she's got other options that seem good, we dont need to offer her anything."

hey, whoever was talking about cost of living in stonybrook, pm me. might be able to help as a native long islander.
-
Rutgers had 300 applicants this year.

This board is super popular, although apparently at 8AM EST on a Sunday, I'm the only one awake reading it.
