  1. Hey guys! Just decided 100% on NYU. It's been a nice time hanging out with ya'll on the internets. I'll see you in other threads!
  2. Hi! I'm an alum of new schools undergrad division, Eugene Lang College. Pm me and I can help you out/hook you up possibly with people in your program!
  3. Hey, I went to Eugene Lang (NS for undergrads) and got into NSSR's MA in Historical Studies. I'm not going (going to NYU for a phd, so I'll be right nearby) but I know for a fact that the reception is only for admits, so if you got that email you are definitely admitted. And I would trust the MyNewSchool thing, though I suppose somehow it could be wrong. Sorry, though this isn't my field, I'm butting in because I use to work for New School admissions and have some idea of how things work there. Feel free to PM me with questions about the school, neighborhood, or anything else! I love New School with all my heart! Good luck!
  4. @owls, personal happiness (which for me, too, is greatly affected by my location) is totally key during graduate school. if you strongly feel you'll be better off personally in los angeles, that is a huge factor for your consideration!
  5. I just wanted to put a shout out to anyone who was admitted to The New School's History MA program. If you want any details about the professors/courses/environment, PM me - I went there for UG.
  6. i've written to 3 so far that I had particularly strong correspondence with. I wrote just today so no responses yet. the field i'm in is so teeny tiny that i think it is good of me to keep them updated on my decision and to say thanks. I will probably see the vast majority of these professors in israel this summer at a conference. perhaps it will make it less awkward to say hi when i've been in touch since my rejection!
  7. I'm still wait listed at rutgers, and getting ready to just accept Nyu since I know it'll be the best offer either way...
  8. Well everyone, I assume this will be my last week playing the waiting game. Rutgers told me they should let me know this week after I gently told my POI that I got into NYU. The only place I am still waiting for is Oxford's Modern Middle East Studies program, which I'm not going to go to but don't want to withdraw from because, well, that application fee was like what, $120?! I may as well see what happens there. I feel like any decision from Rutgers is a win-win. Being rejected would make my decision very simple. Being accepted would be exciting for many reasons, but also a tad stressful. We shall see! For now I'm going to enjoy LA as I am here for a work adventure, leading a service trip with a group of nice students from a liberal arts school in PA. We're all a little disappointed because it seems the East Coast is warmer than it is over here. Boooooo! Happy Monday, everyone.
  9. guys, NYU is tempting me with $$$ for summer language work THIS SUMMER in israel. before i'm even matriculated. i'm dying. it feels like i'm being seduced. yesterday i met with my POI and it went okay. it was not FABULOUS but it was totally fine. then i ran into two of my former professors, one on the subway and one at the cafe where i was meeting my 8th grader to help her start her bat mitzvah sermon writing. it was such good fortune to run into them because they really really helped me see clearer. i can't choose rutgers (even if they become a real choice) just because of one person. it's relying too much on her staying there and also on the idea that we will definitely work well together. NYU has the people, the resources, the funding, and the students. it really cannot be beat when it comes to studying israel. so i think i've made my decision either way. i feel very lucky to have these former professors who help me so much. their wise words are so valid and were so incredibly needed at the moment that i ran into them. it was a miraculous chain of events. all that being said, i'm off to LA tomorrow-next sunday for work, and I don't think i'm going to do anything about grad schools through that time. see if that helps me see more clearly and what not. so i will not notify nyu or rutgers until the 26th.
  10. I know, I know. I was clearly being paranoid.
  11. i got my official funding letter from NYU! eeeep! i'm a happy camper. i'm meeting with my POI tomorrow. i'm going to be so sweaty and nervous! erp
  12. Oseirus, I'll make a match for you if you serenade me with this song. A classic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqccwjmjNGk
  13. Oseirus, I am a master matchmaker. True story: I set my dad and stepmom up when I was 7.
  14. There's a concept called Jewish geography that basically means that any Jew you wanna get in touch with is probably separated by less than 2 degrees with another Jew. So no surprise that with all 3 Nyu students I'm in touch with, I have at least 5 mutual friends, including in some cases my boyfriends cousin.. Jewish Studies is a small small world... So in your case, just ask your program to hook you up!
  15. I've had the good fortune to speak to 3 current students in this NYU dual program thanks to Jewish geography and skype! (They are all in Israel.) It's so tremendously helpful. Try to track down current students in your programs too if you can!
  16. I'm going to do advanced Hebrew in Tel Aviv, hopefully! Wheeeeeee!!!
  17. I'm going to be wearing dresses and skirts primarily because it's warm out here in NY (hell yeah, thanks early spring!), but I agree about dark jeans a nice top, flats or boots... I think as long as you look nice, you're good! (I never fall into the trap of 'business casual'-- gives me the creeps!)
  18. Ithaca is Gorges, I've heard.
  19. Hey All. Clearly going to wait til I meet with my NYU poi. I'm just trying to think somewhat ahead... I'm sort of losing a week in this process because I'm off to LA the 18-25 for work and won't have a moment to think (leading service trips is like that - it's a 24/7 job). By the time I get home back to being able to talk to these guys and consider my options, it will be the end of the month! Where did the time go? Anyone here done with decisions yet?
  20. CONGRATS SAFFERZ! That's amazing!!!!!! I think I've made my decision too. I think I will go to NYU even if Rutgers pulls through. I'm going to wait for my meeting with my POI at NYU so I'm sure, but I'm feeling good about it and am seeing the pros/cons with Rutgers more clearly. Should I remove my name off the Rutgers wait list when I'm sure about it?! What do you guys think? Part of me wants to see Rutgers offer if it ever comes through, but I don't want to let them continue to think they are definitely my 1st choice, which is what I said prior. eeeep thoughts?
  21. I got into a dream program and am basking in happiness, sunshine, and glory! This is one of the best weekends I've ever had.

  22. Wow, things are really almost over. This thread is eerily quiet.
  23. NOW I GET TO JOIN THIS THREAD. Hey. Sup.
  24. We always take the double mitzvah seriously when making out at Jewish summer camp, so I say yes oseirus!
