I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one dragging my feet at work I live abroad and have been working with architectural drafting (10-11 hours/day), so I am so HAPPY to be moving on to grad school. I like my co-workers a lot, but the daily tasks are so tedious. I told my boss last week that my last day will be June 15 (woohoo)...I have a countdown in my agenda....despite knowing that I only have one more month and each day is torture. Any tips on what you use to motivate yourself (besides daydreaming about grad school)?

Have you heard anything about how difficult it is to get a unit? I saw on the website that it's done by lottery, but I wonder what the chances are? It seems like living in eastgate would be ideal for us since we are moving from abroad and the less hassle with leases/deposits/transfering utilities to our names and searching craiglist, the better

I'm also looking at the on-campus grad family housing situation. There are two apartments you can choose from, so I think I will fill out an application in the coming weeks and cross my fingers that we get a spot. The apartments I've seen on craigslist seem a little pricey, but I'm sure that in the coming weeks there will be some more options. The good thing about living at eastgate or westgate is that you have utilities included, which in the winter months could make a significant difference in your monthly budget. Also, can't beat the location Which building are you leaning towards? From what I can tell from the site westgate units are a little smaller and it's a 20 min walk to the T-stop, which your spouse may need to use on a daily basis, depending on their job. 20 minutes isn't so long, but then I imagine in freezing snow 20 min might be kinda painful. Eastgate is much closer to the T-stop. Since I'm not familiar with the area, not sure where there are more markets, restaurants, etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on MIT grad housing (Eastgate or Westgate)? I'll be moving to Cambridge with my husband in the fall and I welcome any opinions about the benefits/ drawbacks on living in either of these family grad housing options/ is it really sought after/ do we even have a chance at getting a unit?

Hi there! I studied at a small liberal arts school in CA and after graduating in '08 I moved to South America where I am still living. I work at an architecture firm here and I have some experience in the US working at non-profits. I applied to MIT's HCED concentration. So nervous for the results to come out...but I guess this week we'll be finding out!

Just got an acceptance e-mail from UPenn! Super excited!!

I'm also applying for a masters in urban planning and haven't heard anything back. as previously mentioned, all of the schools I applied to send out decisions in march (both from info on their admissions sites and the results page stats from last year). I did notice today that some people posted on the results page acceptances from UPenn and Berkeley (both schools I applied to) for the masters program. Of course I immediately checked my e-mail but nothing there

Hi all, I have a SOP that I've worked really hard on and submitted to 4 of the 6 schools I am applying to. It is roughly 1000 words and the last two apps I have to turn in are 500 words. I have been looking over my statement to see what I can trim (or should I say chop off) and it is so difficult! Does anyone out there have any tips ? My sentences are well thought out and link to one another so it is difficult to delete a sentence here or there while keeping it cohesive. Should I stick to just one or two main stories (what I did for my undergrad thesis and what I do now) or try to briefly list several things (experiences that lead me to this area) to give a broader picture? Thanks for the advice in advance!

Hi all, I am applying to 6 schools, 5 of which require a SOP. The 6th school (UC Berkeley) requires a separate Academic Statement and Personal History. I have spent a lot of time on my SOP for the other schools and was hoping I could break it apart into the two UC statements, but it's not working out as I planned. Does anyone have some tips on what to specifically address in the Personal Statement? My SOP can be molded into the Academic Statement easily, but I'm stuck on what to put in the PS...how I relate to my area of study has a lot of personal background, but doesn't my interest in my area of study need to be in the AS...just don't want to repeat info...help!

Hi all, So after 2 e-mails and no response I e-mailed the department admin assistant. Since the college I went to is a small liberal arts school, by graduation you know all the staff and faculty in the department pretty well. She immediately replied me and said she would check in with the particular professor. Two hours later she wrote back saying that of course he would be happy to help in any way and that he thought he had replied me. Moral of the story: Be persistent and use your resources.

Hey DJ! I'm in a similar situation as well I keep checking my e-mail to see if the professor has replied yet. I sent one e-mail at the end of September and a follow-up on Friday. I think it's definitely easy for us to get caught up in this grad app bubble and think that everyone else is trapped here with us. Just got to wait it out (and think of a plan Hopefully all of us out there waiting for LOR confirmations will get them soon

Hello all, I will be applying for a Masters in Urban Planning this fall and I am debating what is the best way to organize my resume. Option 1 is the usual, education, honors/ awards, work experience, skills. One of my friends mentioned that it also common to put education last and work experience first. What are your thoughts/ suggestions? thanks in advance!
