  1. Yes, SAIC is much better known for the MFA. You can see that by googling something like 'top art schools'. SAIC always seems to be on that list. I agree with herki, if you want the benefits of that reputation then that may have a lot to do with networking and the number of your peers may be important. Good luck!!
  2. Having visited both (but not saying this applies to everyone) SAIC probably does have a better rep than UChicago for specifically art (right now) but UofC is headed in the right direction for sure and as a University overall it is world class. I am really excited about having the entire school as a resource and not just the art school. SAIC is way bigger but they also have tons of specialized classes you can take so if you are looking for art and technology classes or fibers etc it seems that they have anything you could dream of needing. UChicago seems like it will be a heavily academic environment with a real focus on theory and very intimate. As for the locations, SAIC is downtown and Uchicago is in Hyde Park (a bit slower and beautiful!!!) If you do decide to go to Uchicago let me know! I want to meet my classmates! But really you have two great options, there really is no losing.
  3. anyone else going to University of Chicago in the fall? )))))
  4. I haven't accepted yet but I am pretty sure I am going to soon! I also will try to make at least one of the critique days! Hope to see you there!
  5. Indigoconcord, are you attending UChicago winter critiques? Have you accepted yet?
  6. Yes, a friend of mine was called a week or more ago for New Media. It sounded like an impromptu interview about 20 min. and then they called him again and talked for about 45 min. They said he was a semi-finalist but to my knowledge he hasn't heard from them since then. Hope that helps somewhat.
  7. Mine says "Sort" as well. Hmmm. Oh well. This is a little like reading tea leaves. Who knows.
  8. Accepted to UChicago!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Good luck to everyone! Hopefully all the waiting is coming to an end.
  9. Congratulations!!! I will keep my fingers crossed and email her. GAH! Grad admissions are going to give me heart problems.
  10. Was she able to tell you of your admissions standing or just that they were still in the process of distributing funding? Thank you so much for sharing!
  11. Has anyone who interviewed at UChicago heard anything at all??
  12. It did but I applied to painting when I had to choose and to Interdisciplinary when available. I hope that no matter where I go, the school foster interdisciplinary and collaborative making. I feel like most programs are moving in a direction that kind of dissolves the boundaries, right?
  13. Hey! Did you apply to performance and sculpture? Are they seperate programs at SAIC? Good Luck!
  14. A friend of mine who is also applying for painting was notified via email notification of an interview for Portland State (don't know if anyone is waiting to hear from them). What a long month.
  15. Hello everyone! I have tried to resist visiting online forums, thinking that the wait would not be so terrible if I could busy myself but I just couldn't hold out! Anyways, lovely work and good luck all around! gweaver, I interviewed for VCU painting last year and was waitlisted. Holding out hope for a second chance (fingers crossed). Congratulations! The interview last year was a choice between skype or phone call, two faculty members, pretty straight forward questioning and very comfortable personalities. I am sure you will do well. They were very fun to talk to! Hope that is some help.
