  1. Hey Weighted_by_Gold, Congrats! I might be seeing you at SAIC this fall! Just wondering, how did SAIC notify you of your Deans Scholarship? Thanks!
  2. Accepted to SAIC Painting and Drawing via mail!!! No word on funding yet, but I'm so stoked. Also rejected to Tyler via mail, but I'm not exactly sure when the letter came in. They sent it to my parent's house and it sat unopened on the kitchen table for a few weeks, haha.
  3. Just got accepted to Hoffberger via email with some funding. 3rd time's the charm, I guess. Need to hear back from SAIC and Rutgers before making a decision. Still in disbelief. Got rejected from VCU via snail mail today as well. Makes me sad because it's such a great program. Womp womp. :-/
  4. Thanks painthuffer! That really means a lot. SAIC Post Bac did me a world of good. Really glad I came here. I'd love to see your work sometime if you've got a link to share
  5. Rejected from UCLA Painting earlier this morning via email.
  6. Anyone else get into Otis? Anyone know anything about Otis? I'm going to visit during their open studios in April.
  7. 5 spots open in Hoffberger as of last week. Was hoping to hear back from them today but that didn't happen. Chris says Monday, so we'll see. With all of the protests going on and the curfew in place, I can understand the delay in information. They're right down the street from where most of the action is happening. Meanwhile, I put my deposit in for the Post Bac at SAIC. If MICA doesn't come back with a decent offer, I guess I'm moving to Chicago.
  8. If I were you, I'd have to go with MICA. Usually they're kinda stingy with funds, so it's pretty awesome that you got a nice scholarship there. Baltimore has its quirks, but it's affordable, and within driving distance of DC, Philly, and NYC, which are obviously huge art markets. The location, while not Chicago, is actually pretty great considering you're so close to all of those other major cities. Also we have crab cakes. If you're into that. #marylandrules
  9. Joan does like me, and you if you made it to the alternate list. She said really great things about my work the first time I met her in 2012, and in the portfolio review process this fall. I ran with her advice and changed over half of my portfolio, but there are only 10 studios for incoming students, so I guess I didn't change enough to make the final cut. You're right, though. She is the one that has complete, final say over who gets into the program. After interviewing at SAIC and seeing the way their system is set up, I'm not sure if I'm into that or not. Baltimore is home for me, and getting into MICA would mean that I wouldn't have to uproot my life, so I am hoping that something opens up, but Chicago is amaaaazing... I hate that everything is still so up in the air.
  10. Probably doesn't help that my degree says "BA Studio Art" either. They added the F two years after I graduated Still, for a first generation college student to accidentally end up at a school with a kick ass art program, I'm pretty grateful. Just pissed that after so many years of studying and working so hard, that the choice of school I made when I was 18 with little to no information at my disposal could be hindering me at this stage in the game.
  11. From what I understand, the Post Bac is structured very much like the MFA, with the exception being that it's only a year long (obviously) and you only get to chose one advisor instead of two. The Post Bac studios are mixed in with the MFA studios, so there's lots of intermingling between programs, which I thought was cool. You take one elective undergrad level class in whatever discipline you choose, the rest is pretty much self directed studio time, theory and art history. I've been out of school for five years, so although I'm disappointed I didn't make it into the MFA program, there's no denying that I could benefit tremendously from being re-immersed in that world before going onto the MFA. Funding is not great. There are some merit scholarships, but they don't cover a whole lot and I got the feeling that they were few and far between. And obviously there's no guarantee that you'll be accepted into SAIC's MFA program after completing the Post Bac, but they did say that some years there has been an 80-90% acceptance rate. Also, a lot of people go on from the Post Bac to get incredible funding at other schools. It was mentioned that I was an ideal candidate for the Post Bac because I "didn't go to art school", which honestly kind of shocked me, even though I guess they're right. I went to a tiny liberal arts school, but the art program was super intense, and I received a fantastic education there... I guess on paper it doesn't look as good as going to MICA or Tyler, but I wouldn't change a thing. Soooo... Yeah. I'll see what kind of funding they come up with. I'd love to go, but I don't think I can afford it.
  12. I still haven't gotten anything from VCU. checked my spam, refreshed a few times... wonder what the deal is? Guess I'll run downstairs and check the mailbox while I'm at it.
