  1. depends on where you go on the east coast you go to.....
  2. Alright, first week of March....anyone expecting to hear this week from schools? I'm still waiting to hear from a couple more. Although, with that said, I have recently decided to accept my offer of admission to an international university I was accepted to a couple months back. What a relief to be done with this whole process! For a while there, I wasn't sure if this day would ever come. Best of luck to all in the coming weeks!
  3. I can definitely understand both sides to this. I'm all for helping out my fellow geology peers by opening up my spot, but at the same time I think back to all the time, energy, and money I put into each and every application and it hurts my soul a bit to not see it all the way through.... I say wait to hear from every school you applied to... and if you're accepted, then kindly reject the offer in a timely fashion!
  4. You're going to love the east coast I promise! Have you decided on a school?
  5. ....within the Marine Geology and Geophysics program at @ MIT/WHOI, I came across a lot of different ongoing research that I would consider more just geophysics than 'marine geophysics'. Perhaps the person who posted the result was referring to that?
  6. they're referring to 'marine geology and geophysics' i would imagine. Same program I applied for.
  7. On the bright side, at least he took the time to contact you rather than just sending you a generic rejection letter!
  8. It sounds really interesting, actually. Definitely right up my alley!
  9. @meki4life: No you're not toast. They are two separate programs, thus two different admission processes. I called them to clarify this back in November. You still have a chance at MIT. I don't think sending the POI an email would hurt any, since you've already had some good contact with them.
  10. Ahh I hear you. Very understandable. I'm living in South Carolina and we didn't have a winter this year. The humidity is killing me....i'm hoping I end up going to school somewhere much much colder...to the North it is!
  11. Haha I hear you. I think if I could go back in time, I'd throw in a couple more PhD programs. The thought of going bachelors degree straight to PhD didn't cross my mind until the very end. I also have this problem of being quite a nomad, so the thought of living in one place for 5 years is a little unsettling (at least right now). I've never lived somewhere for that long before.
  12. @hope4fall2012: Thanks for the input. That was my thinking....I applied to 3 Masters programs and 1 PhD. Got rejected from the PhD program so its looking like i'll be getting my masters first. But I almost would rather do that so I can nail down exactly what I am interested in researching before dedicating 4-5 years of my life to an "eh sure that sounds interesting" research topic.
  13. Goodluck to the both of us! You never know, miracles do happen....
  14. Thank you! I'm hoping within the next few weeks I will hear from the other 2 schools I applied to. Fingers Crossed!
  15. @anthroDork: you make a good point. I've already been accepted to my first choice (which I posted on Facebook...I honestly see zero reason NOT to post awesome news on YOUR Facebook.) I was rejected from my second choice and also opted not to post it
  16. I applied to the MIT/WHOI joint program, not EAPS. I don't think EAPS has sent out results yet! (correct me if I'm wrong..) Good luck to you!
  17. rejection from MIT/WHOI for marine geology and geophysics.... ouch. That's ok though! Already have an acceptance to an international university
  18. I wish i wasn't so attached to my smart phone! I find myself checking my phone at least 4 times during class...its a problem.
  19. Haven't heard anything about U Maryland. I do know that some schools only contact you via post as opposed to email.... thus i have found myself somewhat stalking the postman in my neighborhood...
  20. @hope4fall2012: I am doing my best! I saw that someone posted a PhD acceptance to University of Oregon. Has anyone heard from them regarding admissions as a masters student?
