They claim the scores they give you at the end of your test is an 'estimate' but the majority of the people I have talked to say their score ends up being dead on.

Ah, nicely done! My quantitative scores the second time were a whole lot better. And, the good news is I also improved my writing! So i'm sure you did just fine!

Agreed with everyone....worry less about GRE scores and GPA and more about the other positive qualities you bring to the table in the end, GRE scores and GPA are not THE deciding factors

So I know this reply is a while after you last posted, but I'm curious if you got accepted to MIT/WHOI and also where you ended up going?

You'd be surprised how many people don't actually have a 3.9 GPA so don't worry. It all depends on the major, the school, etc. When it comes down to it, a 3.9 GPA doesn't necessarily guarantee you admissions over someone with a lower GPA. It all depends on the applicant! In regards to people getting offers for fall 2012, a lot of graduate programs will start reviewing your application once you've submitted all documents. Some schools will go ahead and get back to you while others will wait until they have received all applications before making decisions for fall. Don't worry!

For the record, there's a lot more to geology and geophysics then you think (you being a non geology degree holder)
