Who's Applying for Fall 2012? Where are you Applying?

I know that it really sucks, but I promise that it will be worth it. My Michigan offer looked perfect on paper, but my opinion changed after my visit. I'm reallllllllyyyyyyy glad I went. It sort of confirmed what I already knew about HGSE. I immediately connected to HGSE in a way I didn't expect to. After your visit, trust your gut. -

To be even more personal, my visit to Michigan confirmed that it was not necessarily the best fit for me based on my interactions with current students. I simply could not see myself in a cohort with them and unfortunately that is something that no amount of online investigation could have prepared me for. -
I never got any financial aid info from TC so I sent in my "decided not to attend this school" email yesterday. Never received any kind of communication from them besides the "you got in" email either. Decided I wanted a warmer reception from the school I choose to attend.

Michigan funded our visits, but I went to visit HGSE on my own dime last year and I'm glad I did. I really fell in love with the program. There is just no way to know how you feel about a program until you go visit. I say you should definitely go if you can manage it. You may love or hate it. You just never know. -
How did everyone feel about their UMich visit?

That's a good point. I guess what I meant was that you could still potentially get more than just those $11K that you think you may get. -

But as others have stated, many fully funded offers have not been awarded yet. I actually know a current student that is fully funded through a random fellowship that she did did not expect to get. I wouldn't lose hope just yet. -

. I was at Michigan too this weekend! Did you stay the weekend for the events? -
Thank you to everyone who has shared some wonderful advice. My fully funded offer is very much " fully funded"... Full tuition, health insurance and living stipend. It's hard to pass up... But HGSE is HGSE and I'm not sure I can really pass that up either. At the moment, I'm really leaning towards HGSE.

Freedom in Ed, how do you know you didn't get any funding? Did you get your fin aid award already?? -
I guess HGSE is just the emotional choice. When I went to visit it "felt" right... Like "wow, I'm supposed to be here. This is it." I just connected to it for some reason. The class structure was amazing, the faculty was truly remarkable and everyone in the cohort had something really valuable to add(I went to visit an actual class). I found that the students at my fully funded offer didn't really "dig deep" in class; this concerns me. I found myself thinking, "can I really sit in these classes for a year with students that aren't truly passionate about education"? I found that the students at HGSE had a different level of commitment to the field. This, of course, is just a very broad generalization. My fully funded offer comes with the perfect advisor and a potential research site match (not for sure yet). I'm just thinking that I might get slightly frustrated in a program with students who (their words not mine) "just needed something to do after undergrad." I really am torn. I was dead set on HGSE, but now I feel like I might be silly to reject a fully funded offer. They just emailed me a couple of days ago the fellowship info. They went into how rare it was for a masters candidate to get it, etc. now I'm just not sure it it's guilt or something similar that's driving me to consider it... That being said, how much is the experience all worth? I would definitely have the faculty support and research opportunities at the fully funded offer or I would get " the experience " at HGSE... The experience would be - students and faculty that push me to become better in my field, "name brand" recognition, access to projects that I've admired for a looong time like Project Zero, etc. I'm worried that I'll make the "wrong" decision. Do I sit in my classroom and read about people in the field that I've admired for a long time like Howard Gardner, etc or do I go to the place where they are - HGSE? Still no funding info from HGSE so I don't have all the info. Guess I just needed to vent because I was so overwhelmed today with my visit and getting the "hard sell." I'm not a person who does well with praise and it was all overwhelming... I was so glad it was over and I got to run back to relax at my hotel. Thanks for listening GC.

Anyone else considering giving up a fully funded offer for HGSE? I need some perspective on things...

I just went to Michigan and they were saying that Higher Ed was interviewing for positions soon. I also heard that they suck up most of the jobs in the program since they get priority. That's def a good sign for you if you choose Michigan.

Thanks, im_blue!!

Congrats on UCF!!! I'm sure you are NOT a lousy writer... and that's obvious by the fact that you got into an MFA program in a very competitive year. Celebrate!
-
Anyone get their funding package yet?? If not, would you please let us know when you do? I turned my info in late and I'm worried that it won't get processed in time to meet the deadline for when all offers are supposed to go out.

I just met someone who got into Berkeley, but for the policy program. Is that a bad sign for us?

Lol. Thanks. You'd think, right? I didn't hear anything.. But it's kinda weird that those are still POME results.
