What do you do to keep your mind off the wait?

oh wow, that's what friends have been telling me for years. I just baked an amazing vegan blueberry choco pie last night. AND I did gender studies. AND we recently immigrated to Canada. PM me if you have any questions and settlement and etc. What I am doing to get throught the wait is this: 1. Started applying for jobs. Looked into a career that I have always wanted to pursue, but never had an opportunity to. Worked on my resume and am now looking into part-time work options to get started on that part of my professional development. This has worked really well. I re-visited the list of things I wanted to do in 10 years. And, well, I decided it is time to get started on some of them. 2. Baking. I always bake when I have to process an emotion. 3. If I had time (or more like a baby-sitter ) I would be taking rock climbing classes. Always wanted to try. -
the program at York e-mailed me asking permission to transfer. I wrote back saying that I don't mind. It's not a guarantee by any means, esp. considering that Ryerson has already sent out some PhD offers. Just another chance to be considered. The e-mail said that they have already sent out PhD offers, but they obviously have a wait list, which is good.

Waiting it Out on Canadian Universities - 2012

surefire, my insight will be very simple one of my professors in grad school said that it is always better to get degrees from different schools. You get better exposure to different viewpoints, network more, and it looks better on your resume but, of course, there are so many other things that need to be factored in the app season has been nerve wrecking for me. I have only applied to one school, to York that is. And, as you said, my program is extremely slow. I don't blame them, but wish I was handling the wait better emotionally, had an ability to detach myself from it until the situations resolves. I know that you left for a few days because you were checking your e-mail too much. What else did you do? What was your strategy? Thanks! -

surefire, I did not get a chance to congratulate you on your acceptances! I have read that you have invested a lot of work and it paid off. How rewarding. I know that you have been accepted both to Toronto and York. Which one did you pick? -

This is really cute. You come to a thread, where people with Masters gather to talk about getting into one particular PhD program. These people know what academia world is like (being fully aware of the value of good research), have spent a lot of time, money, and effort getting their documents ready (and you say you KNOW we are well equipped to spend that time making money instead), and now talk about how the process is going i really don't think it is the right place and time to discuss the validity of our choice

very cool, very cool University of Calgary will have a PhD in Comm and Cult starting this year you have an interesting angle. Something about creating/researching narratives? I did my Master's in Communication Studies (qualitative, cultural studies approach), but I am sticking to the field, because have too many other interests, that honestly don't fit anywhere else. Good luck!
