  1. Hmm I visited NYU today and I loved it. I am visiting Cal next week. Maybe I will know then.
  2. I visited NYU today and I had just the warmest feeling. They seem really flexible with trying to give you the best and most individually rewarding experience as well as have amazing internship opportunities. If you are looking to work in New York, I would suggest NYU. Smaller classes, more attention, ect. (They work directly with the NYTs). But Columbia carries a name that is heard around the world. While I don't think their program prepares you as well as NYU's might, it may be worth it to have the name. You can take it anywhere. Bottom line: They are both amazing schools. Congratulations!
  3. I feel the same! I think I will honestly get a better education at Berkeley than I would at NYU. Their program is way more flexible. But I feel like thats only one piece of a good J-school. I am leaning towards Berkeley but it is also hard to let go of NYU, a school I have always wanted to go to and is in New York City where I currently live and know. Not to mention NOTHING beats NYC.
  4. Hmmm. It is hard for me because I am just looking for grad school to refine my reporting skills and that is kind of broad. But did you find that you have gotten better opportunities by choosing New York? Better internships and or freelance opportunities?
  5. So I have been up all night trying to figure out where the hell I want to go. I feel a lot like this Iady. I figured I would apply to five schools and go where ever I got in. Jokes on me, I got into every single one except Columbia. While I realize this is NOT the worst problem to have, hear me out. The Lucky Four: Berkeley NYU - Reporting in NY Mizzou CUNY Now I really love Berkeley's program, and as a life long New Yorker, it might be great to get the hell out of dodge, but NY is where everything is happening! And then there is Mizzou.... which is in the middle of no where, but has a great program. CUNY is good too, but luckily I still have a lot of my undergrad savings as I had a scholarship, so I can splurge for name recognition. I think I'm leaning towards NYU or Berkeley but that still doesn't help me with my location problems. Thoughts? Has anyone had any similar issues, even with different schools?

  9. Ok, so I have an interview soon and I am really nervous. I was hoping someone could give me some insight into what these are like. I have never been on a college interview like this. What kinds of questions do you think they will ask? What should I come prepared with (résumés, gre scores, ect.)? Does any one have any tips?
  10. I always feel like schools love to diversify to their student body. The fact that you are in India might be a huge advantage. I'd like to think schools try and bring in many different types of people into each class. I for one am very scared, with a GPA just below a 3.5 and less than stellar GRE scores, I am hoping my writing samples, essays and interviews really help me. I also am already a professional journalist and editor (though only for six months). I wonder what my chances are... probably not as good as yours. You have a different sort of background. Engineering will certainly make your application stand out. Have you given any thought to NYU or Mizzou?
