  1. Still waiting to hear back as well. Caporaso's work in the IPE of regionalism and global governance is exactly what my thesis of IPE and financial regulation was on. It's actually funny though, my school just hired two fresh grad students from Washington on tenure tracks. I'm about to book my flights to the visit day actually
  2. Oh and the rest pays for the tuition / health insurance, etc
  3. Just got my funding package in from Washington: full 5 years + fellowship for first year (renewable if grades or work are good). Still have 5 apps out there, but good news so far!
  4. Hey guys, I had a question that I would love all of your insight on. Is the pool of Poli Sci PHD applicants larger (or more competitive?) than most other humanities/social science pools? I realize it's a popular subject for graduate school and is an area where JD's and MA's will try to get into with a dow economy. Just wondering.
  5. I'll most likely be there on the 8th. I'm glad it's during my spring break
  6. balderdash, I was going to give you a positive vote for that comment, but apparently I have reached my quota XD
  7. I got into UW SEATTLE!!! And my POI Caporaso (the ideal..ideal person in regionalism and IPE) is going to take me on!
  8. congrats bauhaus! how in the world did Duke pass you up?!
  9. I can only speak to the NBA/Taiwanese/Chinese interest into it (I used to intern for NFL China in 2010 when they sponsored a few Chinese college flag football teams). It's a big marketing deal. Half of the soda/sports drink/footwear ads in china and Taiwan have either Kobe, Llamar, or Shaq on them. A bad day in Chinese NBA marketing is a fantastic day in the US, so i'm sure they're paying somebody to put as much coverage on it as possible. In regards to if he can play ball, well that's probably up for conjecture on prejudices of stereotypes of race, team makeup, etc. But I will say being 6'7'' and an active basketball player, yes even in China, that Chinese people these days can DEFINITELY play on the court.
  10. Some good news: I was accepted into a well known Chinese research methods program in Harbin China (CET academic programs) for the months of June through July in Harbin (PRC). It isn't a graduate school acceptance, but lifts my spirits. It's designed around mandarin training for your future dissertation research.
  11. it's 11:30 and nothing...i'm starting to get annoyed with my inbox.
  12. Bah, I just want to hear some good news from Wash.
  13. Father and mother both worked in manufacturing for a while in SC until my father managed to audit classes/take MCAT/ and get into medical school. I feel you, salt lake, on pressure - my parents have wanted me to go to medical school so much they made me take the MCAT my sophomore year (actually scored 132 and got in..). They are very supportive of what I want to do since I began going to conferences/researched in China, but to them a PHD still means "piled high and deep" .
  14. I just got out of a 2 hour history of east asian civ exam...you guys are killing me
  15. Just got off the phone with UW Seattle, no decision but they wanted to call me and tell me they are "very excited" about my application!
  16. Bah got my UCSD rejection, that's 3 down and 7 to go, no acceptances yet. I really can't be upset though, they're all top 10 programs Looking for intelligence jobs for next year (work in the treasury department) and going to reapply this fall and make a better writing sample (presenting at MPSA this april with some actual quant stuff).
  17. What's the difference in funding, if you don't mind me asking, between UC and Berk? If it's not that large, call it a premium on warm weather Please don't take me seriously haha
  18. As someone who's already been through the pain of med school interviews (accepted to Mt. Sinai my sophomore year), I can say that the interview process is actually helpful for candidates as you get a chance to talk to your future colleagues and ask them any questions yourself..
  19. Well that makes me nervous about not receiving an interview. I'm suspecting these next few weeks may just be a series of small disappointments. Just got out of an organic chemistry test, and I was opening my inbox for a chance of positive news...nope.
