  1. South Georgia? I was born in Dublin! I'm currently studying in Columbia SC right now for my undergrad ..good luck! I'm waiting to hear back from WashU, no idea when that will come in!
  2. Steelers didn't play = I didn't watch.
  3. Guess i'll introduce my project. I want to analyze whether or not there is an ongoing relationship between spacial fragmentation and property inflation in Nanjing China. If a multivariable regression model shows a strong relationship between Y variable of "distance from center of city" and X variables of (x1) middle class income level, (x2) inflation of property prices (may throw in a third variable)...we can reasonably suspect there is an ongoing increase of gentrification of the middle class in China by inflationary rates. I'm an undergrad IPE major. I know it's not ridiculously advanced research, but I'm doing it with intent on giving the findings to the Chinese Housing Census for their use and publishing it with a well-known professor in Nanjing. And yes I can speak enough Chinese to carry out the project.
  4. rejected by Duke at 11:00 am, so far 0/2 out of 10
  5. Thanks Brent, I'm definitely going to retake the GRE. Do you think it would be fine if I ignored the verbal and wiring sections an focus on studying only on the math portion (it really came down to I don't do well in Math on standardized tests..I have great grades in the graduate seminar stat classes I took though...)? Also if I end up getting my fulbright grant and disseminate it, i'll probably redirect my applications to some different POI's.
  6. anyone else starting to hate their inbox?
  7. I was part of Michigapolypse as well.
  8. So that's two schools down I haven't heard from but other people are getting admitted into! Rough start
  9. To quote Ba Chin "Have courage, have courage, always have courage."
  10. While studying for chemistry and reading your post I accidentally made a lewis structure of: S=C=S Thank you for that...
  11. I have a Chemistry test tomorrow that's keeping me occupied...
  12. Guess I didn't get into Duke :/ Well there's 1/10 down
  13. How do you know about Duke?
  14. PM some time, my good friend is a PHD student there right now working in methods!
  15. Yep I think my final GRE scores come out as 720 verbal 720 math, 5.5 Writing...I am risking a lot with putting all of my eggs in the top 10/20 basket. If I don't get an acceptance this semester i'll shoot for lower tiered next year, no worries. Thanks for the advice everyone!
  16. I had two language evaluations: 1) from my Chinese instructor who held an interview with me and 2) my school had a Fulbright committee that is linked up with IIE who brought in an outside language evaluator. Both of these occurred back in november I have never heard of the government calling you.
  17. But I get the girl thing, I've been together with the same girl for 3 years (met in college, we both graduate undergrad this may) and plan on getting married after next year! She's from long island, so the only change in interests for me would be cold weather - not language .
  18. I lived in Beijing for about 8 months in the 五道口 (wudaokou) area at Bei Da studying mandarin. Lived in 北川 (Beichaun) for about 4 months during my freshman year working in earthquake relief, and I lived in 南京 nanjing, for a while my junior year (and summer) starting my research on inflation and gentrification with a professor at Nan Shi Da -> the same project I may be getting a Fulbright for (don't know yet, just recommended) But my key interest is in my honors thesis I've finished this semester (presenting at MPSA) on global governance and financial regulation. I never really chose Chinese and China to pursue a comparative focus for a PHD, I think I would need at least 2 - 3 more years added to my 4 years of Mandarin training to even do that. I chose China to be able to experience remarkable first hand political economic changes in the 21st century. I did so through various internships, community service, and part time jobs over there -while working at government agencies who dealt with China here in my home city in the US. But I don't know if the grad schools will like it, they may see I'm too Chinese focused or I'm not gifted with enough methods (only taken two graduate stats courses during my undergrad...up to multi-variable regression). And my Gre math score was only a 720 with the 750 V/5.5 Writing... But if i get the Fulbright I'll finish my project in Nanjing, disseminate it, and probably apply it to future dissertation work when I reapply to some top 30 schools...since all my eggs are in the top 10/top 20 basket. I hear learning Japanese before Chinese is very difficult when switching over...because the tonal part. That's just what I've heard though!
  19. International Relations, mostly global governance with IPE applications. For example my work is on game theory and financial regulation but Im very interested in comparative PE, having lived in China most of my college career and worked in the treasury department (internship also during college)
  20. Yeah I had mine for China already Since mines for a research grant I had to talk about the project, dissemination, methods, etc. I'm an undergraduate so that could hurt me...idk but my sponsor in China is an economist who speaks fluent english, so they were aware of that
  21. Susan Strange for one
  22. Explain?
  23. Rogaine: discounted 20% for PHD applicants
