  1. Some were uber-vague in their answers...but one or two said it wouldn't influence the committee so I was able to decide based on that. I don't remember what CUNY told me. I still am not in a program, although it remains a dream. I was waitlisted at CUNY twice, SERIOUSLY irritating since I did my undergrad there and I think I'm a great candidate. I'm doing an MA now and wondering whether it's worth applying again or maybe working a bit and building up my savings. Or expand my options to schools in small towns?? At least I can say I have been rejected by all the major NYC schools!
  2. hm, I had this dilemma myself, do I spend my own money to check out programs I am wait listed at? Finally I wrote the various departments to ask them if their wait list was already set....if my going would affect the outcome.
  3. Check out the doctoral program in English at the CUNY Graduate Center! Pretty amazing faculty there. There's a Critical Theory certificate you can get alongside your doctoral degree as well.
  4. lifealive, if your diss is considered very good, you should totally publish it as a book even if you phase out of academia...take a look at university press websites...it is obviously hard to publish a book, but it sounds like you are the sort who would get so much satisfaction from it regardless of professional outcome, and sounds like you should share your work with the world in book form. Upvotes for you!

    Genre Writers?

Veronica Schanoes at Queens College might be someone to look into....
  6. I don't know about French but the faculty in English are completely amazing. The courses are fabulous and it's pretty awesome to think that you can go to all of those other NYC schools as part of the consortium...now that they have funding it's pretty appealing--they have a 1-1 teaching load after the first year (research in the first year). But...I am waitlisted.
  7. I caved and emailed the DGS. Results are happening after Feb 18th. AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGG!
  8. Waiting...waiting...waiting... Any results from CUNY English?
  9. A lot of programs do not inform you until middle of February!
  10. No, seriously, don't pester the admissions committee...it can't end well!
  11. Just FYI--I was in touch with the DGS of English at the CUNY Graduate Center today and she said not to expect results from them until third week of February. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE UNTIL THEN!
  12. CUNY Grad Center has pretty strong early modern, especially in Shakespeare and the drama...
  13. ghilklmn, no need to feel bad! Just be polite and I am sure the DGS will get over it. Make a waitlister happy today!
  14. Actually talked to the DGS...they are videotaping the open house, so don't spend the dough unless you are admitted! She told me that they expect to admit students off the "finalist" list since they made only half the admission offers they did last year. But she admitted that she did not know how many, since she does not know how many people who got the first offers are going to take them...they used to have a cohort of 27, but it is going down to 23-25. Much better funding....pretty nice program, the students seem happy with it. If you have an offer from cuny and aren't that interested in it, please make space for us finalists and move on soon....
  15. Really? I thought they were just offering 12 credits max, and anything additional would be you teaching as an adjunct.
  16. Still waiting on funding--hope people with ECFs who don't want them will turn them down SOON.
  17. I tried that last year--trust me, they don't have any extra money!!!!
