My girlfriend made me wait until my applications were finished to get Skryim. The upside is, she offered to get it for me. So on December 14th at 8:30pm, I finished and sent in the last of four applications, and said "get your coat, we can make it to GameStop before it closes." And now I have an awesome distraction from the waiting.

At first, I also feared that pool of applicants who had saved a baby from a burning building, but then I thought, "what if that baby grew up to be Hitler?" So, in an attempt to dampen the ad com's enthusiasm for baby saving candidates, I made my entire SOP about this hypothetical; baby's growing up to be Hitler and the superior applicants who should be punished for saving them.

    Now, I think I'm a shoe-in.

Once upon a midnight query, while I posted weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of grad citations,
While my face was white and pale, suddenly I got some mail
As if I found the Holy Grail, the bale of applications
`'Tis some undergrad,' POI muttered, `with her purpose and her tale -
Only interview, CV is stale '

Ah, distinctly I remember - it was in the bleak December:
I started my applications, parallel with medications
My GRE scores came to town, my face was nothing but a frown
From my books I studied more, more for PhD damnation!
For the rare and radiant POI - I'm ready for our confrontation!
    I'll wait here, in frustration...

In the process of media meshing, I'm refreshing, I'm refreshing!
My inbox and POI's page, just below my address bar,
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming tells me I won't be a star.
And he is saying it out loud - why did she try to get this far?
    No admittance! That's bizarre...

I know I'm newly registered, but I've been trolling the boards for some time.

I'm an artist in my spare time, and I felt compelled to express my "feelings" during the waiting period.

    I hope you enjoy:

I have that "OH NOT YOU AAAARGH I DON'T CARE" moment every time I receive an e-mail, even if it's an important one. Just give me the admission ones, so I don't freak out.

I'm having a small heart attack every time I check my e-mail.

I got a spam message saying YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN and I almost fainted. -.-

Finished 5/5 applications... Now we wait. I expect the first results to reach me in February, but I'm freaking out at the moment. Of course.

    Good luck to you all!

    One word: Skyrim.

Aside from that, I sympathize with you. The winter is my least favorite season, and while I love being outside during the rest of the year, I cannot stand cold weather sports or anything that celebrates the frigid temperatures. That's not wholly unexpected, though -- I spent my childhood in the south.

To go back to the general topic, I believe there's a difference between bragging and merely celebrating your life, and I agree with those who referenced marriages, babies, etc. I don't feel the need to walk on eggshells, especially on MY facebook account. Don't want to see it? Have to make it about you instead of being happy for me? Then maybe we shouldn't be friends. I welcome your delete.

Admissions now take into consideration not only your GPA and GRE, but also your FarmVille scores!

I don't think I'll post which school I get accepted to or rejected from. But at the end of the semester, if I'm accepted, I'll probably do an update about it. I have lots of friends in the states who keep asking me if I'm moving back or not, so I don't think it's conceited to let everyone know that I'm moving. Plus, I have no friends applying to the same programs anyway (or grad school at all).

I agree with Sparky and Fuzzylogician. Although, and I'm not sure if this was a dream or just some daytime delirium, but I was thinking...wouldn't it be kind of ridiculous if schools started notifying of admissions decisions via Facebook? The GradCafe results page would have entries like, "Accepted via Wall Post" or "I was Poked by my Top Choice. I checked my status on their website and I found out I was rejected."
