  1. Stay at Candler. It's my understanding that the MDiv and MTS programs at Duke are not well funded, and the chances of getting a good package this late in the game are slim to none. Not only is Candler a fantastic place (PM me for specifics), there is something to be said for the first person to ask you to the dance. Plus, you're already there, and Atlanta/Decatur is a great (and affordable) place to live.
  2. I'm pretty sure it's not a sabbatical/leave issue.
  3. They do, and I would definitely consider them. Cost of living in Atlanta/Decatur is way less than any of the other areas on your list, so if you're trying to limit the debt you incur during your M* degree, it is an excellent option. If you have more questions about Candler/Emory, feel free to PM me. I'm not an ethicist, but I did spend 2 years there, and can offer feedback on the program and faculty if you need it.
  4. Timothy P. Jackson? Why aren't you applying at Candler?
  5. Declined a Yale MARc offer today and a Duke MA offer on Thursday. Hope that helps someone on here.
  6. The last 6 HB at Emory are from: Wheaton, Yale, GTU, Princeton, Princeton, Emory. Ph.D. candidate bios are usually readily available online for top programs. If you really want to know, you should read those.
  7. I have to agree with everyone else. Unless you're not disclosing something bigger, I have no doubt you'll get into your schools. If you want more details on Emory, send me a PM.
  8. I didn't get a funding call until the beginning of April last year.
  9. Excellent, congrats! The MTS program has been excellent for me, very flexible. I'm HB, but the NT program is one of the best you'll find. Dr. Kraftchick heads up the MTS program, so you will have unprecedented access and exposure to him, which can lend itself well to future LORs. In addition to Dr. Kraftchick, LTJ is quite the celebrity around Emory and beyond. I don't personally have any interaction with him, but the feedback I hear is really, really great. Funding was generous, but the MTS program does not have nearly the financial backing as the M.Div program. My experience is that this is generally the rule and not the exception for what you'll find in most Religion programs. I should also note that I received additional grant money this year above and beyond what was initially promised. It was quite the pleasant surprise when I reviewed my student account (I even wrote to verify it wasn't a mistake), though I'm not sure how this will play out in my second year. If you have any specific questions about the program, feel free to DM for details.
  10. I was called in person for acceptance. Acceptance call came 2 weeks after application, but I submitted it in mid-November. What's your area of interest?
  11. I have heard this from multiple sources, too.
  12. Thanks everyone! newenglandshawn: Fall 2014 admission.
  13. Thanks for the encouragement, Kuriakos. I guess I'm wondering if a GPA of 3.8 to 3.9+ is a weakness or not.
  14. This question is a touch on the personal side here, so feel free to PM. For anyone admitted to or attending Harvard, Emory or PTS, would you say a 4.0 is required for admission into their PhD (Hebrew Bible) programs? I'm really stressed out now that grades are in for the semester and I'm wondering if one or more A- would negatively impact my admission consideration. Is there a minimum acceptable GPA? I realize these things are relative, but with GRE's one can assume 90th percentile or better is required, is there a GPA equivalent of this expectation? I can assume with some level of confidence that should I submit my application to these schools, my final GPA will be between 3.8 and 3.9+ ... is that enough? Thanks.
  15. I don't have first hand knowledge of their programs, but just had a similar conversation with my advisor - who is a very well known HB scholar. ND's HB program has taken a hit with retiring faculty, though it's still strong and carries the weight of the ND brand. I can't speak to their NT program.
