  1. For those without funding how do you plan to pay for school? Loans? Working part-time? This MFA will be my second Master's degree and I still carry debt from undergrad. I'm trying to figure out that if I'm accepted, how much debt am I willing to go into for a degree that doesn't guarantee a steady salary after graduation. Thoughts?

    SAIC - march 3rd

I got the email too. : / I interviewed in Photo and during our "welcome" the Director of Grad Admissions told us that letters would be in the mail today (3/13/12). Good luck everyone!
  3. I interviewed in the Photo Dept at SAIC last weekend and the Director of Graduate Admissions said that letters would go out next Tuesday, March 13. Knowing this may help temper the anticipation. Best of Luck!

    SAIC - march 3rd

I'll be there for Photo and will be staying with friends. The email I received doesn't mention an open bar, but does say continental breakfast and lunch will be provided (which i'm psyched for because money is tight!). Not sure of what times though. Has anyone received an update on the day's event schedule (tours, dept meetings, etc)? Not that it matters but does anyone know how many interviews are conducted per dept (specifically Photo)? Good luck to everyone!

    SAIC - march 3rd

I don't think they do an open house for that dept. My friend is an SAIC alum in Film/Video/New Media. i think she visited the school after she was accepted and made appointments with profs and offices independently. And you're right, they don't do interview for that dept. I would hold tight. fingers crossed for you!
  6. Hi LoloLauren, I got a letter in the mail last Saturday from the SAIC Photo Dept. I hope yours is taking the circuitous route to your mailbox! Best of luck!
  7. hi nishtha. SAIC sends all notification through the mail so hopefully your letter is making its way to you in India!
  8. Leah I really like your work. Congrats on your acceptance and interviews! I'm sorry to hear that pinecode. I hope you can get your application fee back if the error was on their end. When I submitted my application the site crashed and then I was charged the fee twice. It took 3 phone calls (left messages) and 2 emails to finally get refunded.
  9. thanks nicl722! i would expect a delay since i'm sure all the letters are sent around the same time and it takes longer to process and deliver mail going outside the US. fingers crossed!
  10. agreed! great advice leetimko. thanks! I'm going to try to enlist my artist, art historian, and curator friends for some studio visits to help me practice talking about my work. and thanks kazoo! hang in there everyone!
  11. I got an interview request from SAIC in the mail yesterday (2/11/12).
  12. I received an invitation for an interview at SAIC yesterday via snail mail! Now I'm going to check out the thread on interview prep! Any tips much appreciated! Congrats to everyone with interviews and acceptances!
  13. I feel you. I didn't apply to enough schools because i decided kind of late to apply. I was also influenced by where my BF was applying to MBA programs. Sounds like U of Minnesota already made their decision (someone posted that they're 1 of 2 on the waitlist, with 2 people already admitted). And my other schools, Yale and SAIC are so incredibly competitive. I'm working on developing a plan B for the fall. I'm also meditating on the fact that the decisions are out of my control. I've done all I can and can't beat myself up if not accepted. Just need to keep moving forward with what's important to me.
  14. While we wait I was wondering if there are any current students or recent grads that are interested in sharing thoughts/experiences about the MFA Photography program where they are enrolled. I am particularly interested in knowing more about Yale, SAIC, and University of Minnesota. I know that each is quite different. And I know the least about UMN. I'd love to hear more about the individual experiences people have had in each of these programs. Especially regarding faculty, the development your work, funding, resources/equipment, quality of life... Thanks!
  15. Congrats on being done with the application process! I just finished last night. I admittedly haven't done the research for the schools that I applied to since I decided to apply late last year. Now that it's time to wait, I am looking for more information especially from current students and recent grads. If selected for an interview or accepted I would then go visit before making a decision. Right now money's too tight for trips. I applied to Yale, SAIC, and UMN, and this is my first year applying to MFA programs. Best of luck to everyone!
