  1. Thanks! Excited to meet you -- also, I have a conference at Chapel Hill the day before my comp exams -- that's going to be fun! But it all seems worth it now.
  2. Yes I'm going to the open house! I'm just overwhelmed right now -- the date is the exact same as Missouri, but I'm going to try and arrange something else with them. I'm still waiting to wake up -- good luck to everyone still waiting.
  3. I'm waiting to hear as well--my mail has been delayed due to a move, but I'm still hoping excited for UTK anyways!
  4. I noticed this too--I'm hoping to hear also. Good luck to everyone!
  5. I know exactly what you're talking about. I think any writing that combines crack and worms (not the earthworm kind) is bound to be entertaining.
  6. I met Junot Diaz and he kissed me on the cheek. So--I'm biased, but I love his work. Drown is more entertaining though.
  7. It's referenced a lot in Renaissance literature -- Edward II comes to mind (I am in love with Marlowe, after all). Gaveston's "upon his breast I die" speech is one of the main passages in queer readings. I didn't make that connection. Huh--now I'll have to rethink this. Still don't like the novel though.
  8. jma310-- I did some work on Virginia Woolf, eating disorders, and food. I struggled with an eating disorder growing up, so naturally I see it in the literature. I went a different direction ultimately, but I still enjoy reading about it! Clarissa wasn't one of my favorites though. What texts are you looking at in 19th century? (You can PM me if you don't want to stray too far from the topic of this thread).
  9. Oh--Charlotte Temple. My professor tried to make it interesting by asserting vehemently that every time she fainted it was "code" for an orgasm. Wouldn't make a difference either way, although I did have a hard time seeing the parallel there.
  10. Don't read Beloved. Ever. Kidding, but it's probably not a good idea to read it at Christmas, or to read five Toni Morrison books in a row, and, if you have a choice, read Song of Soloman and not Beloved. Anything we post on here is going to be someone's favorite, so no hard feelings...right?
  11. Sorry for the confusion-- I found out via e-mail, but he said the official letter will be mailed Monday! I haven't got it yet!
  12. Hey Guys-- it was me. It took me a while to post because I knew how horrible the CUNY and Vanderbilt posts made me feel when I hadn't heard, and I think I got notified so early because I was nominated for a University wide fellowship. Either way, my official letter was put in the mail Monday. Good luck to all of you! I'm still waiting to hear from CUNY myself, but I didn't get a rejection either, so all is not lost! Best of luck and thanks for the good wishes.
  13. I just assumed we had all read those articles anyways, but agreed with all that's been said.
  14. I haven't dreamt about my thesis yet, but I woke up with Native Son and Othello in my bed one morning and thought, 'Well--this can't be good Feng-Shui."
  15. Realized I was being annoying. This application stuff can bring out interesting personality traits... Congrats to all who got accepted/waitlisted!
  16. I'm in limbo -- heard nothing yet. Hopefully this is a good thing.
  17. It's OK -- I have an acceptance so I can't feel too bad. I'm still waiting to hear from 6 I applied to. The acceptance has definitely made it easier though.
  18. Oh -- the CC is the graduate director of the English department.
  19. Mine just seemed to be a standard form. I was expecting it not having heard from them last week. It was one of my top choices but I'll live!
