2013 SLP Admissions Thread!
hopefulslp88 replied to midnight's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I went to NYMC's open house last year and loved it! I am really looking for a program with a medical emphasis, my goal is to work in a NICU someday...one can dream lol! I spent a lot of time in two hospitals over the summer shadowing/undegrad volunteer program (basically like an internship)- I loved every second! Fingers crossed we both get good news in the next few weeks, good luck!!! -

My interview is at NYMC, thanks for the well wishes! I applied to St. John's as well, did they give you a reason why they could not accept your application this cycle? -

Hi fellow New Yorker lol! We applied to some of the same schools, waiting is really killing me! I feel like the East Coast is sooo slow with responses compared to the rest of the country.... good luck! -

I have also been wondering the same about interviews, what percentage of applicants receive interviews? Just another thing to add to the list of things to worry and think about.... -

My email was sent from Ms.Carrion. The email contained the same letter that was to be mailed to me. If you are having trouble with receiving emails- don't fret, you would still be notified via mail- I received the email and am currently waiting for the postal letter. I would call them sometime next week if you do not hear anything. I don't think it to be presumptuous, you have every right to ask, you paid to apply there! I would just explain that you do not receive the emails from the school and you just wanted to make sure that you did not miss any important notifications. -

Received my first rejection from Rush, but was then cheered up by my invitation to interview at New York Medical College! -

Hi! I realized we applied to three of the same schools, have you received any emails from MGH about receiving your application from CSDCAS? I just received one from U Pitt and Rush so far. Thanks! BTW congrats on your acceptance to Emerson!! -

I am guilty of the above lol.... It really is pretty stressful! -
Rush Supplemental?
hopefulslp88 replied to silverlining96's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I also applied to Rush, but I think it is still to early to hear about a supplemental. I looked back at last years posts and I believe people were notified about the supplemental portion around February 15th. -

I will probably FB message CSDCAS tomorrow and find out what date they are up to. I am happy that they are using FB to answer questions,it is so much quicker then calling! I'll post my findings lol... -

I was just notified by one school that they have not received one of my transcripts that was mailed three weeks ago... so I had to order another one! This application process is a full time job,but I do have to say many schools have let me know when my application is complete and two have been sent for review...yikes. CSDCAS is killing me with the rate at which applications are being processed... I also spoke to CSDCAS earlier, they were up to apps from December 20th.... I received a quick response after I FB messaged them. -

All I know is from the website as well lol, it does seem like a great program and I hope I can score an interview! I'd love to go there because it isn't to far from home, but far enough to have the "on my own" experience ( I'm about 2-3 hrs away from Albany). Did you get an email saying your application was sent for review? As for application fees- my bank account is also feeling depleted haha. My application fees for three schools were waived because I went to their open houses so I was very happy about that! -

I am a second timer lol ( I applied for Fall 2012 and was waitlisted and rejected last year.) This year I have not had any problems thus far with CSDCAS, I submitted my application on December 29th, and it is still labeled at complete/not verified. I am anxiously waiting as well, they told me the lead time is currently 4 weeks from when we submit the application. I see you applied to Saint Rose as well, do you know much about the school? I submitted that application last week! Officially, I have one more application to complete and then I can start worrying about hearing back lol. -

FYI for all fellow applicants: If you can attend program open houses do so! I have attended four open houses since August and 3 out of the 4 schools are going to waive my application fee because of attendance! I just thought I would spread the word as grad applications can add up along with transcripts and GRE scores! -

Although I have 3 more schools to hear from, I don't feel I have much of a chance of receiving an acceptance this year. This was my first year applying and boy have I learned from this experience! I have received some good advice from people on this forum and that's to build up a resume with volunteer, research experience,or an internship. Luckily, I have been offered a speech internship this summer and that is a step in the right direction. I am also contemplating retaking my GRE. A year off isn't the worst that could happen, I look at it as a minor setback. I also plan to visit potential grad schools over the summer. Finally I plan on revising my SOP and working on getting great LOR. -

And another one bites the dust! Not too upset because I just received news that I have gotten an awesome internship over the summer so that has softened the blow... -

Thank you for your input! I am in fact an SLP/AUD major and will be graduating this spring. I have already thought about boosting my resume and have a few things lined up because I believe that was my weakness. I also thought about taking ASL as its something I've always wanted to do. I know a year off wouldn't be the end of the world but I'm also 24 so that kinda bothers me. Most schools in my area are extremely competitive because of the small class size and the fact that most people do not want to go away to school. Cost is also another big factor as the grad schools in the CUNY system are extremely affordable thus making them competitive even though they aren't the best programs ( they are pretty good though).
