  1. <-- USC applicant and also waiting... I did ran into huge trouble with missing documents though and I am not sure if my application has been passed on to the committee before early february. So, still waiting.
  2. 1.) So I'll just wait and see Thank you very much for sharing and I wish you all the best for your application! 2.) Of course they are, I would be disappointed if they weren't. It would be weird if someone was studying communication, networks and social media and wouldn't have any interest in forums, in which people discuss their application experiences, getting to know each other and often are in a most interesting position because they are competitors and on the other hand supporting each other
  3. I am, pretty much like gurlsaved, still waiting for the funding decisions from UT Austin and waiting to hear from three other schools I applied to. I heard back from 4 other schools, all rejections, but I wouldn't mind at all if Austin offered me funding because it was one of my top choices and I am super excited and super nervous. While waiting I am taking nice trips to the different libraries of all Berlin universities and trying to get started on a term paper while finishing up a short seminar paper and an animated movie. So it's not like waiting would be the only thing keeping me busy but it is very distracting and I want it to be over
  4. @ edost: I am sorry to hear from other casualties @ iamhere: Awesome! I am really happy for you. How did UCSB turn out? @ reterik: Try to stay on the bright side you "'ve been accepted to a couple of places"... That's a good start! It is going to work out somehow
  5. @ Duva: Congrats! I just received my rejection from UPenn and I guess the USC Annenberg will reject me, too But I am tired of waiting anyways, so bring it on Annenbergs!
  6. I am not building my theory on the fact that someone else heard back first but on my scores, missing publications and the other 400 applicants for the 20 openings I don't even know if there is a German expression for saying something at the same time... how should I know it in English? hehe
  7. Someone posted on the results survey that he/she has been accepted Oh well, so another rejection for me today
  8. @ rowsdower: Congrats! @ monde: I haven't heard back either but I think this week might be the week of decisions. Although my chances are lower than low I'd still like to know
  9. I totally agree with you guys... I just told my Mom how tired I am of waiting because this hovering in limbo phase is really getting on my nerves. I am a planner and I need to do some planning on when to look for someone to take over my apartment or when to ask my prof for a statement about my not yet complete master's degree etc. etc. It's literally making me sick...
  10. @ mediaphile: Cornell rejected me first round but I was admitted to UT Austin, which is totally awesome because I only applied to schools I really want to got to. Unfortunately I don't know about funding yet but the offer already made my last week I haven't head back from any of the other schools I applied to
  11. Nobody knows We'll just have to wait and I guess it's not over until it's really over...
  12. Hi mediaphile, (like the name ) Good luck on your applications. Although we are all worried and waiting for most of us there seems to be a place in some program somewhere. The Northwestern discussion has been going on for some time now. Did you apply to MTS? I did and did not get an interview invitation and neither did iamhere. Of course it is very possible that they did not choose to invite us but maybe it is because we're all internationals and don't reside in the States right now (positive thinking!). I don't really get the job problem though: If your location is somewhere in Asia, you would need to quit anyways or are we talking like right away? Because nothing is final till April 15th and until then no one can say for sure that you haven't been accepted, right?
  13. @ S@lly: The term paper will be a theoretical research work and basically setting the groundwork for the theoretical background of the thesis (at least that's the plan). My only problem is the empirical part because as anyone knows empirical research never really goes as smooth as you planned it. I will be totally stressed out and it will be hard but I'll manage somehow
  14. wow, I envy you. I still have to write a term paper and my master's thesis till school starts in summer. yay @ clarisse: I am a big fan of combining quantitative and qualitative methods because I believe most research questions cannot be answered by sticking to one methodology or one perspective and that's what I like about Comm Studies, it leaves room for looking at research objects from several angles.
  15. @ S@lly See, your positive thinking totally paid off! Congrats After I got an answer from the first school yesterday (Cornell) and it was a rejection ( ) I was extremely disappointed. But my Mom always says whenever one door closes, another one opens up: I was accepted to UT Austin the same night. YAY. I only applied to schools I really want to go to and don't really have safety schools, so I am very relieved and happy now. @ MediaMom & Ironic: Congrats to RPI admissions. My application got in very late, so I still haven't heard back but I am totally interested in the whole communication technology and also media design area (went to an arts school) as well as game design, so RPI is definitely interesting for me
  16. @ Iamhere: Hmm... But we're both internationals. It might not mean anything but maybe they did not want to pay for our flights (always trying to find some optimism hidden in the darkest places) I did send them an email yesterday because I was getting really nervous and needed to send them something anyways so I asked whether she has any updates on the admissions process... I hope that wasn't to bold but I am driving me and my whole family, friends, projectteams etc. crazy so I had to do something.
  17. This is so frustrating I still haven't heard from any school and getting neurotic. Ok, I applied really late (like on the deadlines) because I did not know applying early could be helpful for several reasons (in Germany we are pretty much on time, just as our cultural stereotype suggests). Especially not hearing from Northwestern (MTS) after people received invitations to interview weekend via email really makes drives me crazy, turning my bad GRE scores up and down in my head, comparing them to other applicants, looking over my applications again, getting more frustrated... AHHHHHH --- But, before I drown myself in self-pity: Congratulations to all of you successful applicants! It is so great that so many of you got acceptances already!
  18. Hmm. I guess if I havent't heard back by now a rejection is getting more and more likely? Shit I read in the results survey that someone got an invitation to interview weekend on the 18th? Did any of you apply for fall 2012?
  19. I haven't heard back either. The portal being down is a good sign though: Either way it'll turn out, we'll know soon It's nothing carthatic about it for me, I guess. I am just distracting myself from my courses
  20. Hi! Good to hear that other people are waiting, too... I am from Germany and applying to several PhD programs. I chose to apply to top schools although my GRE scores were bad but I figured if I don't get into a prestigious university I'll just go and get a good job first I will be getting my master's in September and I am currently interested in ICT's, their impact on communication in communities, offline and online communities, as well as human computer interaction, especially from an emotions perspective. For my thesis I am planning to conduct a study on levels of emotional expression while using a computer game or virtual environment. It's still very vague though... I come from an interdisciplinary program combining communication and media studies, strategic marketing as well as audiovisual and verbal design practice and I would like to continue working inter- and transdisciplinary because in my opinion communication is always interdisciplinary. It is kind of a meta discipline overlaying and intersecting many disciplines because we pretty much communicate in every context. In addition to communication being connected with almost any other discipline I like doing research and exploring new technologies/concepts whatever so applying research results to interaction design e.g. really excites me and of course therefore, again, an interdisciplinary approach is needed. So much for my introduction and contribution to the discussion... back to waiting :/
