  1. +1 to the person who added "safety school" as comment to the Stanford rejection
  2. Well, it's definitely a dream school, which means that I cannot make any decision until I know that I will not make it... But I feel very honored that they put me on the waitlist.
  3. Wait listed at Harvard PEG...
  4. The thing is that they want to notify quickly as they invite people to the prospective students visit. Thus, once other people received acceptances it is very likely that you were either rejected or on a waitlist. However, there are some schools that seem to notify in waves or during several days (Yale is such an example and it seems that Northwestern and UCI are doing the same).
  5. Princeton and Yale usually send out rejections shortly after acceptances. What I've learned from last year’s application cycle is that almost always no news is bad news.
  6. Yeah, it is HYP-week (and many others)... any guesses who will announce when? I say: - Princeton today - Yale tomorrow and the rest of the week - Harvard on Friday
  7. The issue about the costs of these standardize tests has just been covered in The Economist (not sure if someone mentioned it above): http://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21571417-how-prevent-virtuous-meritocracy-entrenching-itself-top-repairing-rungs
  8. Last year someone posted this video on President's Day and I love it so much that I want to share it with you
  9. I contacted several profs in June when I was on vacation in the US. I just contacted people who knew some the professors of my current program. This probably helped getting responses. I didn't talk to them about my application for most of the conversation. Only at the very end I mentioned that I'm considering applying to their school and if they have any advice. The first thing they actually mentioned are GRE scores. Everyone immediately said that they are looking for students with the best scores. So I guess they are very relevant. Another thing I did was letting my professors contact some of my POIs. I made a list with names of POIs I want to work with and sent that list to my professors. I kindly asked them to contact the POIs and let them know that I was applying to their program. I also did that at one of the schools that offered me admission. My advice is that if you want to contact POIs do it 4-6 month before the deadline. Talk to them about research and not applications. BTW: I still believe that the best way to contact a POI is meeting him/her at a conference where you present a paper.
  10. Thank you so much! Since it is also my second cycle I am beyond happy that I got into such great schools!!
  11. IN AT NYU AND OHIO!!!! NYU was one of my top choices!! I can't stop crying I'm so happy!!!
  12. Ooooooooh myyyyyy g... I just found out that Fulbright sent me acceptances/rejections to the wrong email address!!! They just mentioned that there are some acceptances and rejections!!! I am soooo nervous!!!!
  13. I know that this link (Admissions Problems) has been posted on GC before but for those who missed it: http://admissionsproblems.tumblr.com You better read this blog (about 70 pages) instead of checking your mailbox 100 times a day! Additionally: congrats to the new admits!! To the person who got into Michigan with mediocre gre scores: what were your scores? There is a severe bias towards posting only the top scores on the results page. So it would be really nice to see that you can also get into a top program with mediocre scores.
  14. Haha, I know. Still a bit jet-lagged. Couldn't sleep at night and read GC. But at least I am not checking my mail 24/7. It's sooo beautiful! Thanks for asking!
  15. Hey, I am also a Fulbright grantee. At the moment I actually regret that they are handling most of my applications. I haven't heard of my IIE officer since Dec and thus don't know whether I'm accepted or rejected at Madison/OSU. This waiting games is hard enough and it really sucks that they cannot inform you about your status immediately. One of my POI at a top school STRONGLY recommended that I do not let IIE apply on my behalf and in the case that I get into their program I should decline the Fulbright grant. Congrats to all the new admits!
  16. Nice! If you want you can PM me your email so we can meet for coffee.
  17. Thanks! I just arrived after a very long flight. I second what people said above. It's really great to share this experience with you guys and I hope that I will have the chance to meet some of you in person. Will someone present a paper at ISA this year? I'll be there!
  18. Greetings from Abu Dhabi. Congrats to the new admits! This is great news! Very happy for all of you guys!
  19. To those writing these posts (on PSJR): It seems that you really enjoy reading our posts and we obviously read yours. I welcome you to share your grad school experience with us instead of being a douche and making fun of us! I think everyone who got an acceptance so far can be really proud. OSU or any of the other universities that sent out acceptances are great schools and many people do not get in. So people can be excited about getting an acceptance letter, mail or phone call. This is especially true for those who know the pain of not getting into grad school from previous application cycles. Furthermore, this application process is not only time and energy consuming but also quite costly. So yes, shaking is absolutely legit!
  20. SOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! Congrats!!!! Amazing!!!!
  21. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Congrats to the new admits!!
