  1. Just got the official offer from SFU today! ...I think I will decline because I really like UBC..... I only have until April 18th to decide
  2. When I meant work experiences, I meant anything outside of school! Not just paid but also volunteering, research, extra-curriculars!
  3. Work experience is extremely important. I would find a job related to public health this summer while you're studying for the GREs. I'm Canadian and I've been accepted to some school so far. I don't have a good GPA but I have many related experience in public health. I am sure US is similar. Even if the work is not paid, if it has something to do with PH, it's a bonus. Try volunteering at an NGO. Find internship. Join a public health research lab. Speak to your health professors. Start a school club or join a school club related to raising awareness for PH related cause. Good luck!!!
  4. Thank you Ginnie! I'm leaning more towards UBC right now because they do seem to have more affiliations with women's health research... but still deciding!
  5. hey mph0000 <-- UofA told me that i'll hear back end of April ish....
  6. Hey I haven't received the official acceptance letter yet. So I don't know. This is what they emailed me: "We are pleased to inform you that we are recommending to the Dean of Graduate Studies that you be admitted to the MPH - Global Health in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. You can expect to receive a formal offer of admission by email in the next few weeks." I received this email on March 13.
  7. SFU - Accreditation.. how important is this realistically? If I have UBC MPH, is it really impossible to work in the States?
  8. I am having a lot of trouble deciding. I thought this might be a concern for some of you as well. Let's post advantages/disadvantages!
  9. I just had a 10min telephone interview with Alberta today! Pretty basic and simple! If you're preparing for it, make sure you know what the program you're going into is about and what you can bring to the program! typical interview questions.. I was asked 4/5 questions
  10. Hi Lilac, I received my official acceptance email and mail. I was accepted on March 1st. I also want to share that I was invited yesterday to do a 10min telephone interview with the Uni of Alberta MPH-Global Health focus. Is anyone else doing this? I am just wondering how it's going to be like... I don't know what you can say in 10min...
  11. Just got accepted - SFU - Global Health Concentration! Which school do you guys think is better in terms of the curriculum and research? UBC/SFU? I am really interested in maternal health.
  12. My GPA was not good... I had decent cGPA.. but my 300/400 level gpa was pretty low. I think I had just the cut off - 75% average... So actually I was quite surprised.. but I know I had really strong references, research, and extra-curriculars.
  13. Hi everyone. Do you know any forums/facebook groups/etc. where we can actually talk to current or past graduates of UBC MPH? I'd really like to talk to someone and ask tons of questions about the program... research... extra-curriculars... practicum... etc.. I am not from BC and my UBC friends don't seem to know much about it either. thanks.
  14. Hi, I got a "recommended for admission" on march 1st, and just today I got an official admissions email.
