  1. I'm no where near that field, so all I could recommend concretely is the NSF DDIG. You could also google biology dissertation fellowships, look at the CVs of recent graduates, I'm sure your school has a list of external funding fellowships and you can look through that...
  2. There's tons of dissertation fellowships - both for the collecting data stage and the writing stage (though these are not mutually exclusive). I'd say there's more than for those starting out. What's your field of study? The NSF has a doctoral dissertation improvement grant (that's a competitive one that cross fields).
  3. That's what I meant. From the data we have - the spreadsheet - all those who received it got alternate or awardee status. As to whether or not its representative? No idea, probably not (I've said this at least one other time in this thread). But that's all the data we have to go by. I also would think that although there's a chance people who received budget emails won't receive either status, I also don't think they would send out emails to people who were not in the running.
  4. I have never contemplated this before but saw it mentioned earlier. Are alternates including this info in their resumes/CVs? I'm not quite sure how effective it would be to state that you applied for a Fulbright but were granted alternate status? Thoughts on this? Of course, if granted a Full/ETA fellowship, I can see why it makes sense to include it. What do people think? You know, I've always had trouble with this. I was a Rhodes Nominee and a Ford Foundation HM a few years ago and I don't include it on my CV (though I see other people who do post similar things) bc I don't know...I didn't get it so it seems to almost detract from my other accomplishments. Interested to know others' responses!
  5. All budget email recipients were either accepted or alternates last year
  6. I wonder what day the notices will be going out...Monday? Or too good to be true? Tuesday since it's the 1st?
  7. This is for an MA, correct? There's other threads here re: fellowships and MAs but from what I know, your extremely lucky to get any funding for an MA. Most take out loans.
  8. No. Just your yearly Fellowship Activities Report
  9. JMurphy - I would definitely email Boren to see since the two programs are intertwined in your case
  10. Yeah, the law and society one.
  11. Thanks ebuckner and Celeste Stein. I think I'm just anxious (and procrastinating). All this info about last year (both recipients and people who were not funded) is very helpful!
  12. Are you sure those are DDIG review panels? My panel was supposed to happen on April 12th but that's not an available date there. Perhaps that is the "regular" grant review panels?
  13. Do you know when their review panel met? (the people who have already heard)
  14. Congrats! I know next to nothing about AFLI (just googled it) - are the two dependent on each other or mutually exclusive? (for example, I was a Rhodes nominee to University of Oxford, their Migration Center. I got accepted into the program but didn't get the Rhodes so therefore didn't go bc of lack of funding)
  15. Reviewers read hundreds of these applications. Your take away from this is for next time, make the connection that much more obvious. It needs to stick out. Another thing that may have happened is that one of your reviewers is in the field you are proposing and you did not include his/her work. There is also probably a section in the reviewer's comments that are only to NSF (e.g. not available to the applicant) that may have other comments. They recevie thousands of apps and many of them are good. The job of the applicant is to make your proposal stand out and make each section and its connections obvious and clear.
  16. I agree. Just send an email letting them know that you received this fellowship.
  17. I'd edit my post but I don't know how. I think my project may be an exception because it wasn't for a straight time through. Pay no attention to my previous posting
  18. I tend to think that the budget email does indicate awardee/alternate status because I just don't see them putting the time and effort into getting budget updates from people who won't receive the award, especially considering the large number of people who do receive awards. And I think a selection bias for an online, grad, anonymous board could easily be explained I'm just nervous bc I've been receiving a bunch of f/u emails after the budget email which my SO tells me is a good sign. I think so to but don't want to get my hopes up bc nothings definite (and they couch the emails saying "if you were to receive a Boren")
  19. anyone else receive any f/u emails?
  20. wannaabeanexpat - are you a fellowship or scholarship applicant? If fellowship, I think all of them were sent out...and since there's maybe a month until the notifications I'm not sure if they're still sending out scholarship emails...
  21. Thanks browneyedgirl and appletree123 - it does help
  22. Any ideas on the time lag between external review date and notifications? It's my understanding they send out the offered awards soon afterwards (within a week or two) but I have no idea where I got that idea. Any one else?
  23. Not to be a downer but I'm pretty sure the gradcafe is not a representative sample of all applicants. It's possible you are the only one here applying/lurking from Russia/E Europe
