@michellelaura92 Iowa is definitely near the top of my list, and my excitement is growing. I was less sure of my fit, but as I spoke with the faculty in interviews I could see really interesting angles I could take with my work that hadn't fully occurred to me yet. Very eager. The language of the email was "You are at the top of the waitlist, so there is a good chance that will be able to offer you admission should openings become available," and they invited me to the recruitment weekend, so hopefully it'll happen. Definitely appreciate the candor and detail; Minnesota is a program I am very interested in, but all they sent me a form email telling me I was on the waitlist and didn't respond to my follow-up inquiry.

Just in time to save me from hella anxiety...good news in the last hour! Email from Iowa for an interview on Monday (in the media studies area). Now for a new, but better, kind of nerves!

@GreenEyedTrombonist yes it is nice to have things done and submitted early, but it definitely also gives you plenty of time to freak out. 
Haven't checked in here in days because I've been frantically studying for the GRE...which PAID OFF. Honestly today was a bit miraculous. I had been consistently testing at a 164 (94th percentile) in verbal and a 150 (39th percentile) quant. My practices had all been very consistent so I thought I knew how I would do, but I ended up scoring 8 (?!) points higher than I have ever scored on a practice test: 169 (99th percentile) verbal and 153 (51st percentile) quant. WTF?! Now just waiting for my writing scores...

I have submitted to USF and UMass because they won't send letter-writer requests until you submit everything, and one of my letter-writers is on a tight schedule and needed me to get everything out early. Applying to eleven other programs though and I could just turn them all in a be done with it, but...
My writing sample is a drastically reworked version of a chapter from my thesis, and almost immediately upon finishing the rework, it, of course, became clear to me that if I can find the time to work through one more draft I can make it something that I think/hope will be a really stellar piece of scholarship. Hoping I can find the time...

I have submitted my first round! 8 applications sent out, and 5 to go. Although, I am still looking at additional programs abroad in light of this tax bill...
Really bummed I wasn't able to submit to UNC in Chapel Hill. The way they describe their funding online sounds terrible so I didn't apply, but then I talked to some people at NCA who told me that the website is not correct, but I have not had the time to put together an application. Some really ideal people for me to work with there

Hi all! 
Applied a few years back to enter in fall 2015. Sent apps to four schools, two rejects (Texas and Pitt), one interview that resulted in rejection (Iowa), and one waitlist that didn't pan out (Colorado). I also sent out an app to Texas State University's mass communication MA program and ended up enrolling there and completing the degree with a digital media concentration. My first MA is from Colorado with a rhetorical focus. I'm working as a lecturer this year and will be sending out apps to begin Fall 2018. Casting a much wider net this time around; ideal programs have a faculty with expertise across rhetoric, media studies and performance studies. Cherry on top if they have journalism expertise as well. Looking at 10-13 schools, but top choices are Utah, Minnesota, and Amherst.
