  1. I don't think it's necessarily "stupid" to mention that you've been offered a nice fianancial package at another university - it's all apart of the negotiation process. Granted, you have to do it tactfully, with taste and precision, but I think you are will within your rights to ask them what they can offer you compared to what you've already been given by another institution.
  2. Hunter interview, that's exciting! (And I'm sure nerve-wracking!)
  3. Hi Bordercrossings! I can't imagine have absolutely NO news whatsoever, that must be infuriating and all consuming! I am with you though for hoping for the best . . . who knows, I feel like anything can happen at this point. Good luck to you, let us know how it goes!
  4. Ugh, no email from Cornell - and if it's true that they are doing interviews next week, I'm assuming they are going to get thrown into the abyss of silence for the next month+ along with UCLA, Columbia, NYU, RISD and USC. Curses! *shakes fist*
  5. Congratulations, that's a great program!
  6. Hey mica_c! I did my Cal Arts interview last week . . . they let me know only a day or so in advance as to the date and time, so maybe you'll hear this week. Depending on the department, they might be doing interviews either before or after the "interview day." I dunno, I'm sure you'll hear soon, though you may want to put in a phone call . . .
  7. Rutgers peeps: I could be wrong about this, but I don't think there are clear concentrations, I think it's an interdisciplinary program: The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program in visual arts encompasses various perspectives and fields of study. The MFA program provides a supportive and critical community in which students may expand theiraesthetic concepts, develop strategies for expressing those concepts, and create a pertinent and personal artistic practice. The program offers courses in painting, sculpture, photography, media, performance, printmaking, and mixed media and is interdisciplinary in nature. There are no design or film courses in the graduate program. Critical, social, and aesthetic issues are explored in seminars that complement the studio courses and critiques. http://www.masongross.rutgers.edu/visual-arts/for%20applicants#MFA I checked both my Slideroom and my application and I can't find if I selected a "concentration" per se - though on Slideroom it did say to pick all of the areas that I work in . . . I'm not sure if that helps. Regardless, good luck to all of you! If they said that you can still hear through the end of March, I'm sure they are still sifting through applications!
  8. Aww, that's really sweet actually. I wish all these rejections were like that. (Though I'm sure after spending the time and money on the application, it would have helped to know that beforehand.) Honestly, I think that's the main thing missing from all of this: the realization that people are still people. I think it speaks wonders of the program to have them be so invested in you - someone whom they aren't taking on - to let you know why they aren't accepting you and to give you some encouragement despite that fact, rather than just sending a generic "we have many qualified applicants, blah blah blah."
  9. Yeah, I'm about to write off NYU, Columbia and USC as well. I hate the fact that they just don't tell you that they just aren't that into you right off the bat, but instead play this waiting game. It's like going out on bad dates.
  10. Man, that's a depressing thing to get right before an interview. *sigh*
  11. I just got an email from Columbia and my heart skipped about 5 beats. Alas, it was only their newsletter. Whomp, whomp.
  12. Whomp, whomp. That's crazy if they are.
  13. l'artiste, no they didn't give a time yet. They said that they are holding them this Wednesday (aka tomorrow!) and that they would be sending out times "shortly." I can't help but feel this is punishment for not attending in person. I applied to the general art MFA program, so I don't know about others. Maybe they are contacting by department?
  14. Kazoo, keep the faith! Believe me, this is such a roller coaster of emotion for everyone - you have some interviews with great places, you'll do great I'm sure!
  15. Hi again! Just another tidbit of info: I just (finally) received an email from Cal Arts about their Skype interviews! For those who are Skyping in, keep an eye out!
  16. Thanks zecchi and LoloLauren, I appreciate it! Ha! Thanks Tyson2, I am hoping the same for you! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you (east coast all the way! )- and maybe we can share some boomeranging good vibes with an interview request from NYU for me! We'll see, I'm not sure if no news from them is good news or not . . . And mlo, congratulations on UCLA, another great school with a great program!
  17. Hey Everyone! So, I got an acceptance letter from Rutgers today via snail mail! I'm super excited, and I just wanted to spread the word since I believe I may be the first one? Be on the lookout! Best of luck to all of you!
  18. Tyson2, maybe it's a sign that you are destined for the east coast
  19. Per conversation earlier - I finally got a rejection email from UCSD via email this morning. Best wishes to all those who haven't heard yet, I'm still crossing my fingers for you! And not to be a Bitter Betty, but . . . for those who applied to UCSD, did anyone else notice that when they had us build the web based portfolio, they totally didn't protect it? I mean, I had someone alert me to the fact that my portfolio for them showed up in a Google search. That has got to be unethical somehow! Then you could totally scroll and review everyone else's stuff, images, videos, statements, everything. On top of that, I somehow managed to stumble upon a "rankings" page of who was top ranked - ranking according to just whom, I don't know. But still. I believe it has since been all taken down. But if the department or anyone else reads this forum, just a heads up for next year that you all should watch out for that.
  20. Tyson2, I've been wondering the same thing. Though, earlier this week, I had heard that someone got rejected from a school that I received an acceptance phone call from a few days later. So who knows. I'm beginning to think that if we haven't been outright rejected yet, we might be wait-listed.
  21. I did! And I have heard nothing as well. *sigh*
  22. Ahh, you're right - too many programs to keep track of. Well, congratulations to Tyson2 again and here's hoping for the rest of us!
  23. Tyson2, that's awesome! Congratulations! You applied to photo, yeah? Now starts the wait for those of us who applied to different programs . . . Rachel, thanks for the info - if I can muster up the funds, I will try. I agree with you that it looks better in the long run. Plus, I could use a couple days in LA, getting away from East Coast winter . . . cxxxxxx and mica_c, I'll let you know if I hear anything else from CalArts. I am sure they are inundated with requests for this and that. I emailed them last week, but if I don't hear anything back I'm going to try again tomorrow. I'll keep you posted!
  24. Thanks for your response, mica_c! As of right now I am leaning towards doing a Skype interview as well, as I am on the East Coast. Between a plane ticket, hotel and renting a car, I'm just not sure I can do it after the expenses of just applying. I contacted them as well to see what my options are, but I also have yet to hear back. I'll keep you posted if there are any developments!
