  1. Hey everyone! I have a question for those who are interviewing for CalArts - are you all flying out there, or doing Skype interviews? I have heard that they view in-person interviews with high regard, but I'm just not sure I can afford to get out there. I was just curious as to what others were doing, and if they had heard anything regarding the interview process. If you want to chat via message, that's totally cool too. Thank you all! Hope everyone is hanging in there! Personally, I'm trying to find ways to not climb the walls . . . "Time goes by . . . so slowly . . . "
  2. Hi Song! Congratulations on your interview with RISD, that's awesome!
  3. I'm not sure how much integration there is with the New York scene into the program, but New York is very accessible from the New Brunswick campus. I am sure they would have professionals coming out the campus as well as you all going into the city. It's a great resource to be that close.
  4. Well congratulations, that's awesome! They have a pretty solid program, they've been climbing the ranks in the past few years. I know specifically their printmaking program is very well respected. They have great access to New York and the Chelsea art scene, plus I'm pretty sure they offer good funding. Overall, a great choice.
  5. And how did you find out? Email?
  6. Sympatico, you should definitely call and/or email them ASAP to see what's going on. I had a similar situation with Cornell that I had to work out.
  7. "New Genres accepts 3 I believe." Ugh, that makes my stomach hurt a little bit. Even Columbia takes around 10!
  8. I think almost everyone on this forum who applied to Cal Arts was requested for an interview? So I'm guessing that there will be a lot of people. I'm on the east coast and I'm debating if it's worth it for me to go to LA for it. If I do go, I will probably try to see the other schools that I applied to while I am out there. Just depends if I can come up with the cash. To go or not to go . . .
  9. Good lord, that's awful! How sad.
  10. This is awesome, congratulations! This is should serve as hope for all of us that it ain't over til it's over!
  11. This is something to think about also: when I went to Columbia's open house, they flat out said that even if they love your work, if they don't think they can help you, they aren't going to accept you. Now, that obviously doesn't necessarily mean that you're ready for shows in Chelsea. It just means that these "rejections" have so many different factors built into them, it's not just based on your work. If an institution doesn't think they can offer you anything, even though they might really respond to what you are doing, they won't take you anyway. I've been told over and over again that getting into these programs is like having all these factors align like the stars. Factors which often times have very little to do with your actual work.
  12. Hi Everyone, Just so y'all know, I got my rejection letter from University of Michigan today. Just a heads up that they are on their way - though for those who haven't heard yet, I still have fingers crossed for y'all! Stay positive out there!
  13. Just an FYI for those applying to RISD, who may not know this: they have an admissions Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/risdadmissions/ From what I can gather, RISD won't be notifying until sometime in mid-March.
  14. I would hold out until you get some specific information from or about the MFA program. My guess would be that other departments have different timeframes for acceptances.
  15. I have been lurking for a while, but I also must say that I am so glad this forum exists. It's been invaluable. For those who got interviews at Yale: I speak for myself (and perhaps others) when I say that I'd be interested to see your work, if your comfortable showing us. I'm curious as to the aesthetic they are looking for. Meanwhile, I must find ways to bide the time . . .
