Admissions Email: What does this MEAN?

I think that means you're on a wait list. It's weird that they called it the "final round", but I bet you're sitting on their shortlist. I've contacted schools where they've told me they have sent out their first round of admissions and did a bunch of cuts and the reason I hadn't heard was because I'm sitting on a wait list more or less (for some reason some schools didnt call it a wait list, the sort of danced around the issue and I just inferred it was a wait list scenario). If you can, contact your POI and they might give you the lowdown on what's going on. I emailed both the DGA and my POI at one school and the DGA gave me the "we're just moving slow, hang tight" response, whereas my POI gave me a more in-depth response regarding funding limitations/funding being in flux, how they sent out a bunch of rejections already, and are waiting on their first-round admits to decide before they offer positions. -

not short list, but do they wait list? i had to pester a couple of my other schools who were silent and they gave me the wait list spiel.

Anyone hear from Columbia anthro (archaeology)? Once again just waiting for that rejection, but I'm getting impatient.

On the left hand side under "My Applications", click on the one that says "Anthropology PhD" and the message is right there on a mint green background.

Does Stanford kick rejected doctoral apps over to their MA a la UChicago/Columbia? Could be why... Not holding my breath though.

I got an email from Ned Garrett at Berkeley confirming my rejection, also mentioning that I should have gotten my letter mid-last week and should be getting my official rejection from the graduate office soon. So glad my rejection is official! I hated knowing it in the back of my mind. Now it's right in front of my face!

The UW reject was snail mail. I spoke with Dr. Murowchick (BU) on Feb 7th and he said the Arch. dept would be convening later that week/the week after to initialize the admissions process. He mentioned that they had something like 150 apps, most of them being doctoral students with a small pool of terminal MA students. I emailed Berkeley to tell them to sack up and just tell me I am rejected (not in so many words...). They are also terrible about replying to emails. Were you rejected via email? I have checked the app site multiple times and it still just says my app is submitted still.

Hey! I got rejected on Feb 2nd from UW. Word through the pipes is that they are suffering really bad funding cuts and only let 1 or 2 people in. I see we have a lot of the same applied to schools.... Have you heard from BU? I still havent gotten my rejection letter from UCB yet... Edit: I am archaeology subfielder.

I had a Getty internship in LA for a summer as an undergraduate. Would having another big name internship under your belt help your chances with the Met?

I was feeling this earlier today because I hadnt heard from anywhere for the last 2.5 weeks. Then I got a small envelope from Harvard saying I was rejected, felt relieved, and then angry that this whole process has been detrimental to my self esteem and wellness. I've decided to take my rejection letters and do something fun with them. Constructive. Productive. Pretty. Papier mache or collages or something. Don't let this get you down!

I met up with a Classics grad student there who had just started his doctoral studies... Talking about $800/mo. for a studiio apartment in the area. Sheesh! I just got accepted to Brandeis' MA program (applied to as a safety) so at least I'm able to go somewhere. Waiting for UCLA, UofAZ and Harvard though. Siiiigh.

Has Berkeley for sure sent out acceptances? I haven't heard yea or nay. Just checked and my application reads that they haven't received my GRE scores yet either. Wonderful!

I received an email late last night regarding a phone/Skype interview from the department chair that would take place sometime between then and Thursday (I scheduled it for Thursday). Because it's so short notice and I'm not being flown out for an in-person interview or prospective student weekend, should I be worried?? Am I at the bottom of the totem pole? I know this is the last thing I should be worried about as I prepare for this, but it's still a creeping feeling of dread and added pressure... Stress!!!
