  1. What bentharbour and Nerd_For_Life said, and to answer your question directly, yes the 5 year window is already in effect, as evident by the expanded eligibility to hold the CGS or SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship in years 3, 4, and 5 of the Ph.D.
  2. According to the info posted on SSHRC's website, those are the proposed changes. I don't know if ALL of them have been implemented yet. But, I'm going into my 3rd year and I got the CGS (because SSHRC expanded its eligibility), whereas last year applicants going into their 3rd year received only a 2 year fellowship. Given that you're going into your 3rd year and If you're successful you should get a CGS (35x3) or a 3x20k. I don't know of anyone who got the 25k deal yet (maybe it's still in the works?).
  3. Thanks for correcting my typo -- that's exactly what I meant (I should really start proofreading my posts more thoroughly, haha)
  4. And unfortunately there is not a uniform cut-off score: waitlist cut-off will vary by discipline and by the committee/subcommittee that considered the applications. For some committees, the waitlist cut-off is higher than for others (if I understand the scoring correctly, again judging by past competitions).
  5. Sorry to hear that! Hang in there, though judging by past SSHRC application cycles, the wait might be long. Last year someone's status was changed to successful in August: And the year before, in January (so 8 months after the initial results were out): But there is hope, since Vanier, Trudeau, Rhodes etc. recipients will be declining their SSHRC, so it will go to applicants like you! There's a bit of luck involved, since you've got to be pretty high on the waitlist, and your score should tell you that.
  6. Yeah, Fellowship recipients have received upgrades to CGS, but they are few and far between. This happens when a CGS gets downgraded to a Fellowship (for whatever reason) and then the extra money goes to someone with a Fellowship that is upgraded to CGS. Someone posted about this in last year's SSHRC thread.
  7. I've seen a successful applicant in 2011 or 2012 contemplate declining his 4x20 fellowship for a chance to compete for the CGS again, but I don't know if he ever went through with it, that would be a risky move!!
  8. SSHRC changed their scoring system this year. Before the scores were out of 30, whereas now they are out of 20. In previous years the score didn't seem to have a lot to do with whether the applicant received CGS or a Fellowship, because I've seen some applicants with scores as high as 22/30 receive a Fellowship and 18.7/30 receive a CGS. I do remember the cutoff for the waitlist was around 16.5? Sorry don't know the current stats, since no one has posted their scores yet on the forum.
  9. Got the letter from SSHRC this afternoon. Pleased to report that I've been offered a CGS!!! Wooohoooooo!! $35,000/year for 3 years. Super happy! Some of my stats: 3rd time applying for a Ph.D. SSHRC; 2nd year in the Ph.D. programme, going into 3rd; M.A. and Ph.D. GPA: just above A; 4 single author publications, mainly in grad student journals; 10 or so presentations, some at professional conferences, some at grad student conferences. 5 or 6 RA-ships; 3-4 TA-ships; A ton of awards, including OGS and MA SSHRC. Strong letters of support from supervisor and from another department member, both emerging and internationally-recognized experts in the field I am proposing to study; SSHRC Program of Study: over 20 drafts, circulated to at least 12 members of my dept and fellow students. Thanks for all the support and for sticking together! Congrats to all those received the awards, and good vibes to those still waiting, and also good luck reapplying to those who have not received a SSHRC.
  10. I'm also in Ottawa and didn't get the letter -- maybe tomorrow is the day!
  11. That's exactly what it means. The keyword I highlight in bold is important: "Individuals who apply through a Canadian university for either a master’s scholarship or a doctoral award will first receive notice of the results of their application through their university’s faculty of graduate studies or equivalent." This means universities will inform applicants if their applications were entered into the national competition, and this selection took place in Dec/Jan. Later, "SSHRC informs these applicants in writing of the outcome of their applications." This is what we will be receiving shortly. I think surefire misread the information contained in the link she posted.
  12. Yeah, should be tomorrow or Friday. Checked my mailbox today just in case -- nothing from SSHRC yet.
  13. Congrats, friend! OGS waitlist will move a lot faster once SSHRC applicants reject their OGSs. Hopefully that will be us rejecting those OGSs soon! haha.
  14. I agree. our departments may not know, but grad studies do know for sure, especially awards officers. They've been notified in advance.
  15. I'm sure this was a coincidence and her eyes just happened to land on you while she was talking! I assume she was speaking to the entire audience and didn't mean to single you out. I'm hesitant to email my awards administrator knowing that her reply could be "you should get the letter soon" instead of getting a yes/no answer.
  16. Me too, although @Zaftig posted earlier (page 22) that "Last year in my school, the winners received emails, but not the losers! It was torture to wait for my (rejection) letter."
  17. Does it seem to anyone that departments are notifying only successful applicants? Do departments notify rejected/waitlisted applicants as well?
  18. Awesome! Thanks for being on top of it! *Installing motion sensors inside my mailbox*
  19. Thanks bentharbour! I'll just wait until someone contacts me Bugged enough people already!! haha
  20. I also got waitlisted for the OGS. Grad studies won't say what my rank is or when waitlistees might find out if their status was upgraded to "successful." I was waitlisted for the OGS in Spring 2012 and was actually awarded the OGS at the end of July.
  21. Big congrats to bentharbour, surefire, and pbaid! You guys rock! Glad to see that people are starting to be notified Keep your fingers crossed for the rest of us!!
  22. I wonder if the godforsaken Storyteller Competition is finally over and SSHRC can begin to think about posting some Doctoral Awards news on its Twitter feed??
  23. That's ok, it must be their departments that notified them! Unless SSHRC scrapped its no-email policy, which is doubtful.
  24. I actually don't believe that they received emails directly from SSHRC.
