  1. Looks like I'm late to the party! Congrats to those whose applications are successful and all the best to those who will be reapplying this coming season! My app was successful, it just barely made the cut actually! Last funded application! Committee 3 :)
  2. Keeping my fingers crossed for you Mrazy, but only because your application will be reviewed by a different committee so we won't be competing against each other It's my second time applying (the first was during the 3rd year of my PhD in 2016-2017). Wishing everyone the best possible outcome!
  3. I'd say a missing word is not a deal breaker in an otherwise polished final draft. The problem of a missing bibliography is more serious, which will hurt your chances but shouldn't disqualify you from the process.
  4. SSHRC just tweeted that results have been mailed. Good luck everyone! https://twitter.com/SSHRC_CRSH/status/836939228403597319
  5. @turkergirl That's exactly right. Folks in Western Canada, the US, and beyond will receive their letters much later than Ontario residents, depending on their location. I'm in Ottawa so I'll post a note when I receive mine
  6. SSHRC just tweeted that the results will be mailed out this month (without specifying a date):
  7. I'm not a Banting applicant but I know of several folks who received the letters from Banting today. Good luck all.
  8. Thanks for posting the link, magicbird! I was on their forum the other days and saw someone' post who contacted SSHRC and received a reply that the results would be sent out late February, which I thought was unusual because it's always been mid-February. But, seeing SSHRC is behind schedule with notifying Banting applicants, it seems likely that we'll be finding out closer to the end of Feb.
  9. Hi socfreak, I already created a thread for SSHRC postdoc fellowships, it just got buried under other threads
  10. That's strange - the checklist for my application (Doctoral) appeared as the last page of the generated PDF document. Have you clicked "Verify" in the application menu? Then download and open it before printing. If that doesn't work, I'd call SSHRC, they're pretty fast at resolving technical issues.
  11. You are correct, Skittish. SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowships are only for Canadian citizens and permanent residents! Hope this helps!
  12. Hi all, I am creating a discussion topic for SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship applicants. Today is the deadline to apply, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a place to ask questions, share our experiences, and wait together for the competition results!
  13. I know that at my school, students are eligible to hold the OGS in their 6th year of the Ph.D. and many of them hold it after their SSHRC CGS/Fellowships. But, since the OGS is university (not provincially) administered, this regulation varies by university. I also I disagree that different depts set their own eligibility requirements, but rather it is the university (grad studies) that determines who can hold it and when.
  14. First, congrats on the CGS! I was actually in the same situation as you last year -- I won the CGS going into my third year. I can't speak for Western, but I know that Carleton U will not prohibit its students from holding external awards after they have exhausted their internal funding. I would be willing to bet that Western will not keep you from holding an external award in your senior years of the Ph.D. Besides, the money isn't Western's to keep, it's SSHRC's!
  15. Good point! Do you know if this is also the case for Ph.D. students there? My friend who applied to the Sociology Ph.D. program at Queen's last year was informed that he'd be able to keep his Doctoral SSHRC and all of the internal funding. It could also be that the claw-back is program- and department-specific, though I'm just speculating.
  16. In Canada, each university is different. Some will actually reduce your internal funding package to the amount of the external scholarship you have won (and yes, that really sucks). The University of Toronto, for example, reduces its internal funding packages quite drastically if students there win SSHRCs. Other universities allow their students to keep their internal funding on top of SSHRC (Queens and Carleton do that I believe). It all depends on the school! You should email your faculty of grad studies (or grad chair in your department) to confirm.
  17. Congrats to everyone who was awarded a CGS/Fellowship! And best of luck to those on the waitlist, hopefully it will move quickly. And to those rejected, don't be discouraged. Many of us applied multiple times and eventually you are bound to be successful! To those waiting for the letter: Canada Post has a strange mail delivery model. Around this time last year my neigbhour across the street received his letter, while I did not. Mine came the next day. This may explain why people in the same city do not necessarily receive their letter on the same day, but rather the next day. Fingers crossed for those waiting for news!
  18. Oh, this thread brings back memories...I remember visiting last year's SSHRC thread probably dozens of times a day and refreshing the damn page, and even more so once the results have been mailed. I know bentharbour and crimsoc are with me on this one . Regardless of the individual outcomes, it will be a huge relief once you receive the letter! Hang in there folks, not much longer now! Way to support each other through the process and keep the spirits strong. Thank f*** for threads like this. Best of luck to everyone!
  19. Has anyone else submitted an entry to the Storytellers competition? I wanted to know when we can expect to receive the results. According to the information on SSHRC website, the results will be publicly revealed on April 1st, 2015, but the contest rules indicate that the contestants will be notified on or before March 20th, 2015, which is today. I haven't heard anything yet and my email to SSHRC hasn't been returned. If anyone has more info on this, please feel free to share!
  20. My university released an update a couple of weeks ago that Ph.D. SSHRC applicants should receive their results at the end of April.
  21. Hi solala and tacitmonument. I strongly believe that notifying SSHRC of your acceptance into a university will not and should not make any difference in the outcome of the adjudication of your SSHRC applications. I see the concerns that you are raising and they're completely valid. However, SSHRC is not concerned whether you are successfully admitted into a program or not. That will be your responsibility, so to speak. They adjudicate applications based purely on the information you supplied in them. They examine how well you are suited to carry out the project that you are proposing, it's as simple as that. Of course, you have indicated in your applications the universities that you may or will be attending and potential supervisor/committee members you'd be working with. But I think that's now finalized and no changes are permitted to your Program of Study. Anyway, that's how I see it, and certainly I could be wrong! And when you contact SSHRC, please do share their response!
  22. Congrats to all forwarded! postyork -- I think you're looking at the SSHRC Doctoral fellowships statistics only, in which case you're correct: 80 applicants received an award. I don't think this number includes SSHRC CGS awards, in which case you'd add another 39 (7 Canadian and 32 foreign) awards. Then 80+39 will give you 109, which is the number of both SSHRC Fellowship and CGS awards issued to both Canadian and foreign applicants. That's how I understand it!
  23. Hi folks! Glad to see that the tradition of starting a yearly SSHRC/CGS thread lives on. Good work on that front crimsoc! Hey Carthage32, any luck with the waitlist from last year or have you submitted a new application?? Best of luck to all!
  24. Like surefire, I applied in my second year of the Ph.D. and received a SSHRC CGS for years 3, 4, and 5. Good luck! In addition to what others have posted, here is a table for determining SSHRC CGS/Fellowship eligibility: http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/fellowships/doctoral-doctorat-eng.aspx
