  1. I think my school has no idea when the results will be out, judging by its erroneous media release mid-March claiming that the NSERC applicants would be receiving their results by mail at the end of April, whereas they have already received their results in March electronically.
  2. That's right -- I was just pointing out that the results will be released via regular mail, not electronically.
  3. An award announcement made on April 1st at my school indicates that the competition results will be released by surface mail at the end of April. I assume this was not an April Fools joke!
  4. And now we get to witness all other Tri-Council applicants post about their awards! I think CIHR is next.
  5. The OGS is institution-specific...Carleton will be releasing its competition results mid-April. My deadline was Dec 2, 2013.
  6. I think it would be wise to wait until you receive the competition results from SSHRC before emailing them re: attending an American school, since SSHRC has already determined the successful applicants and in your SSHRC application you indicated that you'd be attending a (Canadian?) school. If you are awarded a CGS SSHRC, then you can always notify them that you will downgrade it to a Fellowship -- that's how I understand the process!
  7. I think it means that you'd better get accepted somewhere! On a serious note, if you've been awarded a SSHRC, you can actually inform the universities you're applying to and it may improve your chances of being accepted especially if the university does not offer a lot of internal funding and funding is pre-requisite for receiving admission. I know an applicant who was initially denied admission, then received a SSHRC and the university subsequently overturned its decision and accepted the applicant because he had his own -- SSHRC -- funding.
  8. I'm positive that SSHRC will have no problem downgrading a 35x3 CGS award to a 20x4 Fellowship upon request. In fact, it's common practice to convert a SSHRC CGS into a SSHRC Fellowship if you're planning to study in the US. In past years successful applicants that SSHRC designates in "Category C" will have a choice between a CGS and and Fellowship (Category A is a CGS and Category B is a Fellowship). Not too sure which universities in the US will allow you to hold multiple awards concurrently (including a SSHRC), but it's worth checking with the institution(s) you're applying to. In Canada most universities will reduce your internal funding package if you've been awarded a major external scholarship.
  9. Yeah we definitely get the raw deal! We're also the last Tri-Council doctoral applicants to receive the results, but I guess somebody has to be last. According to SSHRC, it's working to implement the Research Portal that will electronically unveil competition results...but hopefully many of us won't have to re-apply!
  10. Thanks victoroza! I'm assuming that SSHRC letters will follow a similar format.
  11. Great, thanks for the info (I'm a SSHRC applicant ).
  12. Question for the successful applicants: how thick was the envelope w/ the award letter? How many pages were in it? Did you receive a score out of 30?
  13. No problem. I read someone's post on the NSERC thread that they had heard from their grad chair ahead of receiving the official letter from NSERC. So, I guess informal notifications are Tri-Council agency- and department-specific.
  14. I emailed my grad administrator today and she replied that my department would not be notified earlier than the successful applicants. In other words, the applicants and the dept. will know the results roughly at the same time. She couldn't speak for other departments though.
  15. I saw the timeline for the Vanier results at http://www.vanier.gc.ca/eng/international_students-etudiants_etrangers.aspx Looks like it has been March 31st all along!
  16. I can ask the grad chair in my department next week -- will report back! I'm almost certain that the departments know a lot sooner than the students.
  17. Ditto. We are now officially within a few weeks' range of receiving results. Sending out good vibes to all y'all.
  18. Yeah, I'm banking on the end of April, but I still think it's possible that the online system for NSERC and CIHR Doctoral and Masters applications will speed things up a bit for us.
  19. Congrats peduncle, that's wonderful news! Your award is well deserved and constitutes an excellent recognition of your academic scholarship. Keep your fingers crossed for other Tri-Council applicants, including SSHRC
  20. You know it's interesting that my university released an announcement last week that all Tri-Council applicants should expect results end of April, yet NSERC applicants appear to be receiving their letters now. http://gradstudents.carleton.ca/2014/award-announcement-information/ Maybe other schools are more informed!
  21. A quick note that at my university, the deadline for Ph.D. NSERC was about 19 days earlier than for SSHRC (Sept 30 vs. Oct 19th). Is anyone else aware of the deadlines for NSERC and SSHRC at other universities? I'm trying to estimate whether the variations in application deadlines might indicate a possible date that we could expect to receive SSHRC results.
  22. I've been checking the NSERC thread and it looks like the applicants have begun receiving results: Hate to incite false hope, but SSHRC results might not be far behind.
  23. I'm not sure if they would send you a duplicate, but if you email them at fellowships@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca, they'll change your address they have on file. 2 weeks is quite a long time for them to reply, so I'd email them again just to follow-up. In my communications with them, they have always acknowledged receipts of my emails.
