  1. Another accept just posted--could you share your specialization?
  2. Also trying to keep positive and avoid pulling my hair out in anxiety. If it helps, I know at ASU the acceptances for rhet/comp went out a full week earlier than those for linguistics, and rhet/comp/linguistics is considered a single specialization here. There's hope for us yet!
  3. I'm rhetoric too and haven't heard anything/my website status still says in review. Fingers crossed rhetoric decisions haven't gone out yet... Congrats to those with good news!
  4. "To be" is a copula, so it takes a predicate nominative ("I"), not an object ("me").
  5. FYI, ASU funding notifications are starting! But I know they'll be making funding offers slowly over the remainder of the semester, so try not to panic if you don't hear right away. (Haha, easier said than done, I know.)
  6. Thanks for the news, andsoitgoes! Hopefully this means they're on their way to notifying (and perhaps your letter was just a formality)!
  7. Um, it does come off as a direct criticism, and I don't think by accident. I was just passing along the advice I received from a professor--this isn't something I completely made up by myself as an uninformed potential student. Obviously you are entitled to disagree with that advice...but I don't really appreciate the tone. Plus, as someone who used to be the person who received those emails (I answered my department's generic grad email address), I had no problem at all giving nervous prospective students some peace of mind, nor did the "secretary," (ahem, talk about making allies...I don't think many graduate program/department coordinators appreciate this antiquated title). In fact, the students who kept in touch with her, even about decision progress, were the ones she looked out for the most. Anyway, my mentor didn't say I should nag professors about when they'll finish already, but that I should email the graduate program coordinators just to see if they had an idea about where they were in the process. I apologize for that lack of clarity, but even without I think your reaction was, uh, harsh.
  8. Actually, one of my profs just recommended that I email schools about their expected decision timelines, being sure to mention my name. She said quite the opposite--familiarity can only help.
  9. I had the same issue with my ASU PhD Rhet/Comp/Linguistics letter a few days ago. The link was fixed for me by the next morning. And don't worry, you're not missing any big news in the letter. Funding decisions go out separately and haven't started yet.
  10. For those still waiting to hear from ASU's PhD in R/C/L, I know that as of 4:30 today, the committee had not yet submitted their decisions for the linguistics folks, at least. For rhet/comp, I think the delay between my notification (I was who posted yesterday) and escalot's might have had something to do with the fact that I'm already an ASU student, so it was a faster process to get my notification into the system (this is wild speculation though--I don't have real knowledge on this like I do on the delay in the linguistics decision). Andsoitgoes--you should contact the English grad program coordinator about your leftover recommendation link! If there really is a problem/it's missing, she may be able to help if you start trying to sort it out now rather than later.
