It is definitely encouraging to hear success stories from people getting in off the wait list! There's hope for us yet! One of my professors now, who got his Ph.D. from Maryland, was contacted in JUNE! They called him and told him to come on down (though this was in the late 80s/early 90s).

I, too, feel the pressures of one admit and one rejection. Definitely a strange spot to be in.

I would have real trouble turning down an Ivy League admit... But everyone is right. The department ranking is what matters, and people in your field will be privy to that info. The grandeur of an Ivy League education doesn't hold as much weight in specialized graduate work. Plus you can impress people by telling them you got into a school that's better than Ivy League!

Me too Hopefully we'll hear something that offsets our disappointment!

That's fascinating! It might be a great help to those of us (potentially) writing dissertations in a few years!

I will admit that I have been trolling the results board (and the forum) for about a year since finally signing up today. I promise I haven't posted any false results However, I know that in the Eng/Lit forums, there has been a bit of a strange coincidence of people posting to the forum complaining about not having heard from a particular school, and then almost immediately something going up on the board about that school. Sounds fishy to me...

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. I got the same phone call. Originally I thought it meant that I had an interview for funding, but not necessarily that I got accepted to the program, since the application processes were separate. Check this though: http://www.umass.edu/english/graduate/admissions.html It says "Once you are admitted (and if you have applied for funding), then you will be interviewed by the Writing Program" which certainly sounds to me like the WP only interviews people who have been accepted. You might be 3/3 Trip! And this might be my first admit!
