i'm 21 and in an ma/phd program. like ekans said, do not ever ask anyone their age nor offer your own age (unless asked, then be honest). keep a low profile about age related stuff (don't say "oh, a high school reunion! whats that like?"), don't be obnoxious, and you'll be fine. often, when people find out how old i am after knowing me or working with me for a bit they express shock, saying things like "oh you seem so mature! i thought you were at least 25!" another important factor has to do with how you dress and present yourself. if you're worried about being taken seriously, dress well (and professionally) every single day. it's very superficial and it shouldn't matter, but the sad truth is that it does make quite a difference. pay attention to what folks in their mid to late 20s are wearing, and emulate them.

Discipline & Punish is one of the most accessible Foucualt texts, I reccomend it for f. beginners. Schechner and Roach are both foundational to performance studies as a discipline, but they by no means represent the enitrety of the field as it stands today. For newer (and queer) ps stuff, I'd reccomend Karen Tongson's recent Relocations; Beth Freeman's Time Binds. and......... BERLANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's incredible if you're looking for super high octane affect theory. -

All applications- both internal and external- are reviewed and considered carefully and with the same set of standards. -

Re: nyu. 3 students from this year's MA cohort (including myself) and one from last year's MA cohort. I know of one person on the wait list. I am, obviously, elated. -

hey y'all. i'm a bit late on the uptake, but I applied to brown, berkeley, and nyu, all for performance studies. i had an interview with brown but ultimately got rejected. got a strange email from berkeley a few days ago from their grad admin giving me info about how to get reimbursed for travel expenses for their accepted students visiting weekend and saying congrats again for being accepted. i followed up by phone since this was the first i heard from their department. grad admin said she was "sorry" but made a "horrendouse mistake." she said i mistakenly got that email because I was on a "very short list" of students they were "still considering." she said they had sent out some but not all of their acceptance offers. i asked if this was a de facto wait list and she said "well, no not even necessarily that. we just haven't made all our decisions yet." can't believe that they would make such an unprofessional mistake, but hey, i guess we're all human. in any case, i'm not holding my breath since i'm not terribly interested in their program (don't even have a POI over there, hahah!)
