  1. I'm in a MSW program and I had 2 community colleges and 2 universities in my "history" - the most annoying part was paying for 4 transcripts for SEVERAL applications. I think you'll be fine.
  2. Holy cow, so busy.

UCF's clinical program is extremely competitive. They also recently reduced the number of faculty members they have accepting students in the clinical program. I would highly recommend you study hard for your GRE and apply for both programs if you're really interested in the school. I'm pretty sure they only took two PhD students for Fall 2012. Best of luck!
  4. I'm moving tomorrow - eek!

  5. Well, I moved from Florida to my parents' house in Tennessee on May 26th. I move to Kentucky (where I will be attending school at Universityof Kentucky in Lexington) on July 23, start training for my assistantship on July 25. Orientation for my program is August 20 - classes start August 22.
  6. Hey! I am a bit nervous myself - but - I am really looking forward to it. I am also doing 15 credit hours - and have taken a position with the housing department to work as a hall director. So, I'm worried about scheduling, etc. I'm not sure why as my life in undergrad was insanely busy and this should be similar or less, really. Where are you folks going?
  7. I also was accepted into programs without having any direct-related experience. It can be done! Best of luck to you.
  8. I've actually never really had a fitness plan - and - my lack of "in shape-ness" proves this. I was pretty satisfied with my appearance until I got married and gained the "I'm comfortable" weight. Now that my husband and I are divorcing, I am trying to focus more on taking care of myself. So, I'm in Tennessee with my folks for around two months before I move to Kentucky for school. I joined the local YMCA and plan on swimming five mornings a week and working on improving my stamina and then moving on to other cardio workouts (treadmill, elliptical, biking) and weight training. My job once I get to University of Kentucky is working as a residence hall director. My assignment is in the Wellness Living Learning Community - the biggest benefit (in my mind) is that we have our own gym in the basement of our dorm. I am looking forward to continuing cardio/weight training once I get there and swimming when I can make it to the main recreation facility on campus. Also, I am motivated to continue working out when I'm supposed to be leading by example. Finally, I have completely changed my diet. I recently discovered that I have a sensitivity to gluten - so - I have completely cut it out of my diet. My choices for food are a bit more limited now and therefore my consumption of fresh vegetables has increased while my old standby of pasta has essentially disappeared (with the exception of an occasional gluten free pasta dish). Since making this switch, I've lost two pants sizes without adjusting my activity level at all. Not suggesting that it would work for everyone - but - that's what has helped me thus far. Good luck everyone!
  9. My last day of work was May 10th. I spent the two weeks after that procrastinating about packing and moving and wound up waiting until the day before I was due to leave to pack my stuff up and load my car. That was an adventure! I am now in Tennessee with my parents for around two months waiting to move to Lexington, Kentucky and start my training for my new job. I'm also taking my last three undergraduate classes online and will finish and "graduate" (I'm not walking) just about 20 days before my graduate program begins. As far as putting in notice, etc. my immediate supervisor and the director of my office both wrote me LoRs - so they were well aware of my impending departure. I also worked in an office on campus - where they expect us to graduate and move on. This made it QUITE simple for me. I wish all of you the very best in surviving your final days/weeks/months at work - I may not have a job, but, I am living at home with my folks for the first time in ten years. So. Trade?
  10. I don't have a lot of program specific information - but - I did apply there and they were VERY helpful and the process was super easy for me. I think you will enjoy it - Knoxville is a great area. If you like sushi - try Nama!
  11. Hi there! The reason I chose UK was because I feel that a MSW will prepare me better for what I want to do (Mental Health Counseling). It provides a broader education with more opportunities for application and is perceived as the "gold standard" for mental health counselors. Additionally, UK is in the top 25% in MSW programs and is a well known school. I think that it will be a great fit for me. I'm looking forward to it! If you end up accepting @ UK, it would be great to chat more and know someone else who will be there with me!
  12. Hey all - I was just wondering if anyone else is headed to University of Kentucky for MSW? Would love to chat with some of my fellow students. Hope to hear from someone!
  13. flowerskb, I know it's been a while since you posted this - so hopefully you've been able to find some answers. I am also applying to East Tennessee State University. My parents are about 30 minutes away and my sister about 15 (she also attends ETSU). I think it's a great little area. I can't really think of anything that you would need that you cannot find either right there or within 30-45 minutes. In the immediate area you have Kingsport, Bristol, Asheville, Knoxville. What I love is that it still has a bit of a "small town" feel - but - with everything you need. It's a growing, up and coming area and I anticipate we will be seeing some amazing things coming out of ETSU/Johnson City. Cost of living is still very affordable - though the sales tax is a bit high because there is no state tax. Access to three airports with a short drive. And you just cannot beat the mountains. If you have any other questions or would like to chat more, please feel free to send me a message. Where would you be relocating from? Some times that helps when I understand where you're coming from.
