  1. Got an official reject email from Weill-Cornell - BCMB program.
  2. Great! Thanks for calling. So 10 more days then :| . I guess i will be checking my email regularly. Got a reject from Carnegie Mellon University - Biomedical Engineering & University of Washington - Bioengineering.
  3. Mt. Sinai & Einstein are very silent. No closure reject email from Weill Cornell BCMB so far. I loved Hershey Penn state program. More than happy to go there. Can't wait for it to be April. I would know where I'm heading for sure!
  4. Carnegie Mellon Reject - BME, PhD. Email to check online to view my decesion. Standard reason - too many applicants. Not at all disappointed other than wastin my money (w.r.t Tissue engg). Good luck to ya'll.
  5. Congratulations on your interview. Did anybody apply to Cornell and heard back?
  6. Thanks a lot @ tcmazer for calling. I tried twice this morning and couldn't reach the coordinator. Thats good to know! Congratulations @ sciguy. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  7. Did anyone call/email/contact Einstein or Mt. Sinai? They are very silent. Perhaps the cold is delaying the decisions?
  8. , Perhaps 5-8 yrs down the lane, we could be seeing each other in conferences/universities/industries/consultant/developing technologies/reviewing each other's grants, etc. Lets keep these ideas in mind that we discussed here to solve big problems in future .
  9. do you mean at CMU? I talked with a PI (who is the only one responded) and was in contact with him. But its not an interview by any means. He was just encouraging me to apply to the BME dept and had told me that he may expect to have a position. The dept hasn't made a decision yet on my application so far!
  10. One of my good friend who did MS at CMU - MSE, told me not to go to CMU for biomaterials/Tissue Eng. as the professors don't have any funding. I wasn't aware of this before and regret applying there. The competition must be pretty intense then if there are less spots availabl.e
  11. "Unfortunately, the committee has decided not to recommend your admission and I concur with this decision. The number and quality of graduate applicants to the University of Washington are extraordinary and these difficult decisions are reached through careful consideration of all applicants to a given program. In many cases, enrollment restrictions are also a factor, limiting our ability to accept all qualified applicants." My thoughts on Engg Vs Sci.: I think in my mind, I am more interested in Biomed sci than engineering at this point for several reasons. I suppose its a good opportunity to pour my thoughts out at this point. In the field of tissue engineering, we are kind of on the fringes of unknown territory. biology - developmental and regenerative biology is not properly known and I think the future is in solving the science and applying engineering from that perspective. For instance, since the advent of human genome mapping which got accomplished 10 years ago, Genomic testing, technologies have burgeoned. Cancer - which is the best understood human disease (due to funding) after infections, is still mysterious. Human genome mapped entire genome of humans. But, The cancer genome atlas (TCGA) is trying to map 200s of different cancer types, 50 samples per cancer. And the technology is available at a fraction of cost (compared to before) to do this. This is like 200s human genome projects. My perspective:Similar large scale efforts are needed to understand tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, pathologies of different diseases and conditions. It is inevitable that we engineers have to start embracing these technologies (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc) to solve problems. What best place to get trained on them than at biomed sciences???
  12. Uw reject - BioEngineering....... Somehow not that disappointed... although i want & should to be... ! ... Looks like 3 others posted their rejects today.
  13. Funny you mention Nov 11. That is the same day I submitted my app. However, my recommendations were completed on Nov 27. Another winter storm tomorrow in houston tomorrow!... (frozen trees are rare sight in houston. First time I have seen in >3yrs I have been here, lol). Hope this week brings good luck to all of us...
  14. lol ... I kno... i saw a ton of people getting into Cornell - MSE. Wonder if they are going to send a waive of invites for BME this week?
  15. Winter storm in Houston n Galveston with freeze warning. We have a day off here. Don't expect anything this week.
  16. Yes. Have a lot of people visit my LinkedIn recently. Good thing may be?
  17. Just called and got the same message "to my knowledge all invitations have already been sent out".
  18. I applied to NYU - dept of biology (developmental genetics) and I thought that I applied to sackler-NYU biomedical science program ... :| ... i guess one down!!!
  19. Thats scary... may be Mt. Sinai applicants are not here in gradcafe. I applied to all 4 of those and waiting to hear from them.
  20. When I saw the results, I thought you guys must have gotten your results... I got no email from UPitt so far. I notice that they are all "Americans - A". International here.. so fingers crossed!
  21. Sorry about your michigan reject. Dont loose hope !!! Wait till feb to start, every day will go very slow...!
  22. Wonder if the arctic storm is going to delay the results this week ?
  23. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0okhyNTQDvoNmVtQ2VwRUozQms/edit?usp=sharing Here is my analysis in the pdf link: I plotted number of people who herd back from the program either with an Interview/reject (regardless of positive or negative feedback). Take it with a grain of salt. The data suggests that: 1. Weill Cornell sends out invite mostly in Jan. If you dont hear from them by jan end, I would assume its a reject (although there may be a blip chance). :| 2. Mount sinai sends out invites in Jan and Feb. So there is time. 3. Einstein sends out in Dec and Jan. But, Most of the invites so far has been given to American students (not many internationals - I or U categories). So, for internationals, there is still hope. But, If you dont hear by the end of Jan, its likely a reject I believe. :| 4. NYU-Sackler: Starts from Dec and goes upto Feb. So far most of students who received invites are all americans (A). So there is time .
