  1. Clemson and Virginia Tech would be two more terminal Master's programs. I have no idea where they fall in line with top programs though. Arizona State was a good school that had a terminal Master's, but I believe they are dropping sociology at that university. If anyone has any knowledge about that, please comment. How sad, right? I think this is a great topic, btw. I only applied to terminal Master's programs. I am too scared to jump into a big commitment (PhD) at this point. I'm sure there are many other reasons to chase the MA over the PhD, but that was my main concern.
  2. Points taken. Please note that I was not trying to be jerkish, I was simply being honest. I only said "not good enough". In comparison to the other applicants, would this statement not hold a significant amount of truth? I didn't define "good enough" as higher GPAs and GREs. I'm talking about overall package here. For instance, I am wait-listed at a school right now. If that means that there is not enough funding for me, that means I was not good enough (in whatever fashion) to make the cut. This isn't Little League; not everyone makes the team -- I know that, and that was my point above. I wasn't trying to be rude or nasty. I'm just callin' it like I see it. This is far from the discussion I was introducing, though. It was more of an ethical question about how to act while on a wait-list. And my opinion is that it is disrespectful to rush others for your own benefit. Thank you for your responses, though. Don't mind me -- I'm only posting because it's another boring Spring Break day for me. I'll be gone next week.
  3. This kind of statement bothers me. I have seen it on many forums, not just this one. Why would you ask someone to rush their own process, just to suit your needs? You were wait-listed for a reason. That reason being that you were not good enough to be offered the first time around. So don't take your frustration out on those that were initially accepted. If you've been accepted somewhere, you probably understand the feeling that you would like plenty of time to make your decision. Those that have been accepted deserve to have all of the allotted time to make their decision. You would demand the same, don't act like you wouldn't. In my opinion, it is extremely selfish and unprofessional to partake in such behavior. Wait your turn; it is a wait-list, after all. Just my two cents. Carry on.
  4. Unfortunately, they informed me that I would not be under consideration for an assistantship during my first semester. Oh well, I'm not worried about it. VT is my main choice because, even though I live in TN, VT's campus is only two hours away. I recently visited and was blown away by their campus. What a pretty place!
  5. @ socieconomist - I applied to BGSU as a backup school. They expressed a lot of interest in me, I was flattered, so I decided to apply. You're right though, I could never see myself living in that part of the country. But I am really stoked about VT. I'd love to study at FSU, too. We'll see what happens. Also, I wish there were more non-top-fifteen posters on here. My schools look like preschools compared to these other institutions lol. I need some company.
  6. I was accepted into Virginia Tech for the Master's program in Sociology. They informed me by email on February 10th and by letter on February 15th. I applied to six schools — Bowling Green State, Clemson, Florida State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee being the others — and the only other school that I've heard from is Tennessee, my alma mater, and they have invited me to attend a prospective student visit. For reference, my stats are: Total GPA: 3.28 Last Two Years GPA: 3.65 Sociology GPA: 3.62 GRE: V-152, Q-151, AW-4.0 Good luck to all.
