  1. I turned down KU's offer if anyone was waiting on funding...
  2. I'm a huge fan of Patricia Hill Collins. I got to meet her and get her to sign her most recent book back in 2012 at the National Women's Studies Association's Annual conference. It was amazing. She was amazing.
  3. ASA publishes a guide to graduate programs in the US (and some Canadian programs as well) and they break it down by specialties and sub-fields. I don't have the book in front me, but I know there is a section devoted to qualitative methodologies. You should check it out.
  4. Mary Fischer called to update me on the status of my application. She said that the committee had met and discussed applications. They haven't sent any offers of admission. She claimed that she'd know more in the coming weeks as they got more information about the budget, fellowships, and possible grants.
  5. Just got an email from Barbara Zsembik at UF. Acceptance. Funding info to follow. Its not a top choice, but at least I now have 1 acceptance. Takes away soo much stress!
  6. Anyone wanna claim the UCSB or UCSC admit? Its early for UCSC...
  7. I've been staring at my phone all day willing, praying, hoping that it'll ring and it'll be UCSB on the other end. The one phone call I did get today was my mom asking if I had heard anything yet....The nerves are high but we have to wait it all out.
  8. I've been turned down everywhere for PhD's; therefore I am applying to George Washington and Towson University's Women Studies programs and Simmons' Gender and Cultural studies MA programs. Hopefully, I get my MA and then go for the PhD in two years a better qualified applicant.
  9. Got my letter today. Rejection. Good luck to everyone else.
  10. Dammit. Guess it's plan B and Master's programs for me. Loyola was my last shot. Oh well.
  11. I haven't heard anything from Northeastern, but BU emailed me.
  12. Rejected from BU because my LORs were not in on time. "Your application for admission to the graduate program in Sociology for the Fall 2012 Semester was withdrawn from consideration because it was deemed incomplete by the department at the application deadline." The only thing missing was my LORs. A bad way for that to go down, in my opinion.
  13. I like the idea of doing research around employment and the politics of social welfare policy. If I went into Social Work, it would most definitely be Macro practice. Same.
  14. I got an email from LUC this morning stating that they were looking at applications now. So I am hoping we can hear something soon. As for the Sociology vs. Social Work PhD, I think the Sociology degree would have more portability within Academia, but the Social Work degree offers up an unique lens of research and helping individuals. Right now, I am torn with this too. It is really going to depend on where I get accepted and with what packages. I feel like I could go either way because both are going to give me the opportunity to do what I want to do...So I am waiting and will see. You?

  16. Dizzid, I didn't take ranking into account either, but it seems, at least on this forum, so many people did or do once their acceptances come in. It all comes back to that hierarchy system of education. I personally feel the fit and location are the most important things. I couldn't see myself on the West coast, so I never even considered those top programs. I personally am hoping to hear from George Mason and Loyola Chicago for sociology and GWU for a different reason.
  17. Congrats to all those who have been accepted so far. I saw that someone had mentioned in another post about getting a thread like this started. This is for anyone who is not waiting to hear back from Stanford/UCLA/Harvard ect. It can be difficult to gain perspective for the mid-tier/lower-tier dwellers in this forum, so where are you awaiting decisions, where are you excited about hearing from? I'm still waiting on a few programs and am expecting rejections for a few as well. I am just ready to have all my decisions so I can go to Plan B or start planning for next year. Anyone else?
  18. Does anyone know if UMD is done sending out decisions?
