I'm a huge fan of Patricia Hill Collins. I got to meet her and get her to sign her most recent book back in 2012 at the National Women's Studies Association's Annual conference. It was amazing. She was amazing.
ASA publishes a guide to graduate programs in the US (and some Canadian programs as well) and they break it down by specialties and sub-fields. I don't have the book in front me, but I know there is a section devoted to qualitative methodologies. You should check it out.
Mary Fischer called to update me on the status of my application. She said that the committee had met and discussed applications. They haven't sent any offers of admission. She claimed that she'd know more in the coming weeks as they got more information about the budget, fellowships, and possible grants.
Just got an email from Barbara Zsembik at UF. Acceptance. Funding info to follow. Its not a top choice, but at least I now have 1 acceptance. Takes away soo much stress!
I've been staring at my phone all day willing, praying, hoping that it'll ring and it'll be UCSB on the other end. The one phone call I did get today was my mom asking if I had heard anything yet....The nerves are high but we have to wait it all out.
I've been turned down everywhere for PhD's; therefore I am applying to George Washington and Towson University's Women Studies programs and Simmons' Gender and Cultural studies MA programs. Hopefully, I get my MA and then go for the PhD in two years a better qualified applicant.
Rejected from BU because my LORs were not in on time.
"Your application for admission to the graduate program in Sociology for the Fall 2012 Semester was withdrawn from consideration because it was deemed incomplete by the department at the application deadline."
The only thing missing was my LORs. A bad way for that to go down, in my opinion.
