Help! was just accepted to Georgetown

Comebackzinc, Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it, and I definitely asked you to tell me my business so no worries! I think you're right. I definitely think you're right. I've been able to connect with faculty, get great letters, and do good work at my undergrad (which is not hella prestigious, so the fact that I can get into Georgetown from it says a lot about where I'll be able to get into from Kansas), so I think I'll be able to pull it off at Kansas too. I had a feeling this would be the response I'd get, and I need to hear it. I'm waiting to hear from my advisor, but I'm 99% I'll turn down the offer. In the meantime, I'm just going to pat my failed out of high school former slacker self on the back for getting into freaking Georgetown even if I can't afford to go there! -
Help! was just accepted to Georgetown

Yes, this is the way I'm leaning too. But God the excitement is getting the best of me. Thanks for the advice! -
I don't know what to do! I was just accepted to Georgetown's MA program with no funding, but the office suggests that I will be able to lessen my costs somehow. I have another offer, which I've already accepted, at U of Kansas for a fully funded MA with a 2/2 teaching load and a stipend of 13,000/yr. It would prob take me 3 years to complete. The thing is, Georgetown gets people into incredible programs. I really don't know what to do. Georgetown just sounds so fabulous.

I'm just assuming I'm not in. They really need to get their act together. This is really inconsiderate. -
Georgetown vs. Columbia?
CarolineSC replied to akallen's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
If I were you, I'd take the one that costs less. I think if you're persistant, you can get the attention you need from the faculty. I've certainly had that experience at my undergrad, where the professors have both masters and PhD students as well. Plus, it's freaking COLUMBIA! But is there a thesis option at Columbia? You'll need a good writing sample for Phd apps. -
Funded English MA programs

Oh and Colorado funds, but not the first year. -
Funded English MA programs
CarolineSC replied to evsnow's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I didn't apply to any schools that don't fund their MAs. South Carolina funds kind of crapily the first year (I have a fellowship offer, but that's just eh...), Nebraska and Kansas both offer awesome funding. I don't know what your speciality is, but Kansas is kind of a dream for me because of their 19th-Century American people. -
intextrovert: your comments make me feel so much better (the all working together part)
-
I emailed them to ask about the likelihood of funding, but I haven't heard anything. If there isn't any I'll take myself off the wait list and take one of my other offers.

Hey guys, So who's going to Georgetown? I just got wait listed, so of course I'm wondering who's going to take their offers?

Undergraduate publishing/conferences?
CarolineSC replied to siarabird's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I don't think it's normal. I'm in my senior year, and I'm presenting two papers at a conference, but it's our very own undergraduate English conference. Ha!- 11 replies

Vermont MA
CarolineSC replied to georgestrait1982's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
LivePoetry - you just made me feel so much better. I didn't apply to any PhD programs, even though I'm a good candidate, because of how competitive I know admissions are. Some of my programs are joint MA/PhD programs, but who knows if I'll get into them. I have a fabulous offer with full funding to an MA program, and I'm really happy about it. I should stop reading these forums. Sigh. -

Does anyone know when they usually notify for MAs? -
No Word from MA Programs?
CarolineSC replied to EmilyAnn24's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I'm waiting on Georgetown, Penn State, and Illinois (urbana) for MA. I've heard from four, though. -
I want to make sure I don't get into Penn State or UIUC before I join.

Nope! I'm being ambitious. I'm trying to write a master's level thesis. My first chapter was my writing sample, so I wanted it to be thorough and lengthy. Plus, my thesis advisor has high expectations. I'm glad, though. Although I have spent an inordinate amount of time crying/feeling like a dumbass. It was particularly hard for me, on my first chapter, to apply the theory to the poems I was analyzing. I went to a graduate feminist theory class for one of the Butler days, but that was the only help I got.

I'm probably going to end up there! I got the best offer from them (for an MA), and the school looks great from everything I've read. I'm expecting great culture shock as I'm from South Carolina. :0
