  1. I posted a detailed reply to your same post on cyburbia- good luck!
  2. thanks so much for your ultra thorough reply! when applying buffalo was my dream school- their planning program looked amazing! After attempts at contacting students i was forced back to reality- one students response was 'i'd prefer not to discuss the program over school e-mail will you be in Buffalo?" very shady.... although i got a scholarship...it wasn't much at all Albany was my safety school, i was disappointed in the website and was kind of bummed out to learn i would not be getting any financial aid- i also was unable to get a hold of the adviser listed on my admission sheet...but enjoy it- Albany will be great for state internships and you sold me on the location ha So I chose hunter, not only will i be saving tons of money by staying with my parents, but the tuition is about $1000 cheaper than albany or buffalo (even with aid...) and being in nyc i will have great access to jobs and internships not only in planning, but also to save up some cash on my own. The international program is extremely strong and i will be interacting with a great cohort- so long story short, i am excited about my decision and look forward to the fall...maybe catch you at an event in the city!
  3. unfortunately its becoming a make or break issue school a- cheapest, live with parents school b- best program, most expensive school c- safety, but may offer most funding...
  4. i got into all 3 schools i applied to (MUP) and i really cant decide I'm leaning towards Buffalo because its the only one with the specialization i really want (i say that at this moment), but its not like I cant create my own specialization at the other universities. Hunter means i could stay in the greatest city, live at home and save so much money! Albany was my safety, but its not the worst place you know ANYWAY- I'm wavering back and forth, but only Hunter has made any indication of the possibility of funding which is kind of awkward- I know NYS does their budget in march/april- but i think for me the money will be the deal maker I would make a pro/con list (i hate them, but they work) and go through one by one- don't make a hasty decision- good luck and congrats on having options!!
  5. i have the absolute worst case of senioritis known to man! I'm also a Geog major and got into all the grad schools i applied to. last semester i had a perfect 4.0gpa but so far this semester I've gotten 2 c's on midterms and totally bombed a gen-ed midterm i never got around to taking. Just bought my cap and gown today though which has only made me feel even less inclined to excel this semester...not like I am going to fail out- but I'd be ok with c's for the first time in years! I think it's totally ok btw- we worked our asses off for oh so long a little breathing room before our lifes work begins is normal! congrats on everything!
  6. hoping i get the cushy (3k for 8 weeks) summer camp counselor job to save up some much needed money before the fall and hanging out clearing my head before delving deeply into my lifes work!
  7. Addicted to- Weeds Dexter Secret Diary of a London Call Girl Law and Order SVU Every now and then- Daily Show Colbert Report Family Guy Old School Show of the Moment- Six Feet Under
  8. i tried to go 'balls to the wall' for my last spring break- going back to europe to visit friends from my study abroad last year...it sucked- I spent $1500 obscene dollars to sleep, watch tv and pick up smoking after a 6 month hiatus...but i can't wait until grad school!
  9. I'm in the same boat as you of the 3 schools i was accepted to (all in NYS) only 1 told me they would get back to me with financial support info (scholarships, TA, goodies) the other 2 gave me the april 15th ultimatum- I seent them e-mails earlier this week and have yet to hear back regarding whether I am even in the running for financial support, but I am aware of the fact NY does not enact its budget until late march/early april so that could possibly be the biggest reason why i haven't received any support- who knows- it's killing me since my dream school has made no mention of those dollar signs (even in-state tuition is scandalously high!) Good luck!
  10. Considering the high cost of applying- I do think there should be a reason. Graduate school applications are far more refined than undergraduate apps and obviously there are fewer to review- I do not see why departments don't offer a reason for rejection. Although this was not the case with my graduate applications, I was heartbroken after the rejection I received from the Fulbright in January- although there was no application fee, I felt considering the caliber of applications and the time spent I felt the rejection reason should have been revealed. Anyhow- best of luck with application news!
  11. Anyone else planning on attending- U Buffalo for the fall? I am wondering: University heights area vs. Amherst vs. Elmwood? (accessibility to the south campus) Graduate student apartments? is a car a must? cost of living? Anything else a new grad student should know about the city?
  12. Got into U Buffalo and as my original first choice, I'm planning to attend in the fall for Urban Planning- but I'm eagerly awaiting that award letter which could be make or break...
  13. -SUNY Buffalo -Hunter College -Albany I've heard the fact Buffalo is a research university works against it since its work is more geared to pursuing a Ph. D while Hunter is more practical. I have not heard much about Albany at all to be honest, though the fact it requires only 48 credits make it seem more practical as well.
  14. I've asked this on another forum and received inconclusive results: I got into all 3 Masters programs I applied for which is fantastic and now I am really struggling to make a final decision. I think it will all have to come down to money- no aid letters have been received on my end as of yet. -Hunter- i'd get to stay at home, cheapest tuition, studying planning in nyc would be exceptional -Buffalo- strong program in international planning (which is what I want to do), research university (pro/con) -Albany- applied as a safety but the idea of studying in Albany, degree is 48 credits rather than 60 (pro/con) I am waiting to hear news on scholarships and assistantship opportunities- but in the mean time- Any suggestions?
