The first rejection (and the emotions that follow)
TeaGirl replied to habanero's topic in Waiting it Out
I just got my first rejection. Ego is a little hurt, but it wasn't the disappointment that I imagined. Probably because it really wasn't the program I wanted the most (my last choice actually). -
Just got rejected from UCSB. My ego is a little hurt, but oddly enough, I wasn't crushed or anything. Still waiting on a reply from my other applications. Hopefully, they will be positive replies.

This App Season has made me miserable, literally
TeaGirl replied to kindalost's topic in Waiting it Out
Yep, this definitely describes me. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this either. The stress and frustration of just waiting and having no clue where my life will be headed in the fall (if anywhere) is just really getting to me. If I wasn't working, I would just sit and stare miserably at my email all day.- 24 replies

Is anyone actually waiting until April 15th to decide?
TeaGirl replied to yoshiko's topic in 2010-2015 Archive
Considering I've yet to receive replies of any sort from all 5 schools I applied to, I have a niggling (understatement of the century) concern that my decision will come well after April 15, if at all!! -
I don't think anyone actually does. No, but there's kind of an unofficial competition between the 2 programs, and it seems MIT has been winning it for the last number of year. So Stanford getting ahead is kind of fun to watch

Nothing. Meh. I think I will actually have to wait all the way to April 15! Sigh... -
I too have not heard anything regarding admissions for PhD from Purdue. My application status is still holding for review, although I did get emailed by a POI, so I have hope. If you're right about the end of this month decisions then I guess we should be hearing news on Monday. I just saw that there's been a whole bunch of Stanford MS rejections today. I think they may be finalizing their MS admissions, so maybe that means they'll be moving on the PhD ones soon? I'm so nervous!! Except for the CMU waitlist decision (which is not really a decision), I haven't heard anything back at all from any of the other schools I've applied to and we're closing in on April.

Absolutely... I would go and bask in the joy of not having to worry about finances.... ever. Just pursuit of whatever interests me the most.

Accept/reject mixup - has this ever happened to anyone?
TeaGirl replied to amryfal's topic in Waiting it Out
Perhaps your campus coordinator hadn't yet got the news when you emailed him, or got mixed up? I'd say wait for your letter which you should be receiving very soon, and then you can email him back with an official acceptance. Good luck, and hopefully congrats! -
Yes. When I applied to my Masters 4 years ago, I thought my application to one school was complete (they didn't respond much when I asked them soon after the application deadline). Few month later, in APRIL!!! they email me to tell me that they didn't receive my toefl scores... I re-sent my toefl scores anyway in a feint hope, but I don't think that helped. Ended up going to another school and didn't have regrets about that.

TeaGirl replied to We regret to inform you's topic in Waiting it Out
My "weeks" seem to always happen on the weekend. Got emailed by a prof. this week from one of the universities I applied to asking me if I was interested in joining his research group. That, and the fact that April 1 is almost upon us, makes me think that this might be be a very good week for at least 1 or 2 definitive answers!! Go Golden Week! -

University of Houston REVOKED OFFER AFTER I HAD MOVED
TeaGirl replied to scrwdbyuhouston's topic in 2010-2015 Archive
I can see it already... Desperate Grad Students, or Grad Students gone Nuts! The plot thickens.... But on a more serious note, poor professor! This woman needs to see a mental health professional and stay on her meds or something. -

I got waitlisted this week. I don't know if this qualifies it to be a good week or bad week. This week has 1 more day to make it up to me. Otherwise, I'll be looking forward to Monday to start obsessively watching my email again. Interminable WAIT!!!! -
