  1. This really just blows my mind. I felt stupid thinking that all I had to do was to get the professor to say "Yes, I'll take you" when in fact it's much more than that. I'm not sure how this can encourage anyone during this process. Thanks for the info Noor.
  2. I'd say go for it. The worse they can possibly say is "No". Some faculty are always looking for bright candidates, so don't let tardiness dissuade you!
  3. Thanks for your response. That makes me feel a bit better. I would imagine the university wouldn't bar a faculty member from funding a student if the university was unable to? It doesn't make sense to me. So are you saying then if a professor was willing to provide funding, Ryerson may still say no? I also PMed you my POI
  4. Applying to both MA and PhD programs in Clinical Psychology: 1. Ryerson University 2. OISE (Counselling & Clinical Psychology) 3. University of Ottawa 4. Dalhousie University 5. York University
  5. Based on personal experiences at OISE, and what I know about the program, they never guarantee a spot for the PhD. It's absolutely ridiculous. So if OISE is the only place that accepts you, then go but if you can choose any other program that has a guaranteed spot, take that instead.
  6. Hm, well what about if the professors are able to secure their own funding outside of Ryerson? If they don't depend on Ryerson's funding for their students, is it fair to say that this wouldn't effect them?
  7. Ryerson recommendations go in next week for the Clinical Psychology program. Good luck everyone
  8. Thanks for your helpful hints, I really appreciate it. I guess it is safe to say UTSC is not in the cards for me this year. I appreciate you posting in here to let us know about your friend!
  9. Thanks Eager and MSW13 for your kind words. I do want to make it clear that I had accepted I was rejected until this small glimmer of hope appeared. I actually did receive an e-mail today, and I am on the waitlist hence why no letter has arrived. Apparently, I will know in a little over a week if I get in. They seem to be waiting to hear back from someone. So maybe I wasn't 100% delusional and there is some little hope?
  10. Thanks for the update from your friend. Do you know if your friend was interviewed? Or if they were accepted later on last week (Thursday/Friday) or earlier? I realize you may not know but I figure it's worth a shot!
  11. Congratulations!!! It totally is. I feel like this program has really messed me up emotionally, and then just when I feel a bit better about everything, they pull this shit. I do agree I don't need a piece of paper for closure, but it just makes it official. Having a professor say "no dice" is definitely official, but a letterhead saying that same thing is just more meaningful. I keep reading other stuff about the program and it seems like rejections have already gone out. I just don't know what to do. Should I call the registrar office again next Friday to ask if my status has changed? I just don't want my hopes raised (too late) and then have them crushed which is what's going to happen.
  12. So I was told by the supervisor I was not accepted into their PhD program in February. I then waited for my rejection letter so I could shred it and gain some closure on the application. It's now late April and everyone who was accepted had received their responses by mid March and rejections were by late March/early April. I called the registrar office asking about my rejection letter and she said my application has a "decision being made" as it's status. She said they have mailed out decisions already but my file is still being reviewed. Am I delusional in thinking this is a good sign in that they're changing minds? Or is this a really delayed rejection? I'm too nervous to e-mail the advisor asking her.
  13. I've heard nothing from them. I was told that interviews were supposed to go out this week but I've received nothing as well. I'm not quite what's happening.
  14. That happened to a few people I know last year. They all applied to the MA Counselling program, and were offered an MEd in Developmental Psychology.
  15. I did apply for the MA, and got in yes. For the PhD, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they RARELY except external applicants. I've been there for 3 years, and I have yet to see an external applicant accepted into the PhD program. If they like a candidate enough, they offer them the MA instead. But I would not bank on getting into the PhD program directly at OISE.
  16. Publications, conference presentations, and experience are only going to strengthen your application for the program. However, it definitely comes down to who you're applying to, and if that professor has a spot. You can be ranked highly in the process, and have someone who was ranked lower than you get in because they applied with a professor who was taking students. I was accepted into the program without any conference presentations and publications. Research experience is definitely a must (although I didn't have any, my acceptance at the time was unique). From what I've seen, not many people accepted into the programs have many publications (if at all). But research experience is a huge plus! My GPA was a 3.8-4.0 in my last year.
  17. Has anyone applied to the MA program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)? Applications were open for a 2 week period in March, and they were closed on the 28th of March. This past friday payment for the applications were closed, and I was told by the admin coordinator that calls for interviews were supposed to go out this week. Also, it states that offers of admission are going out after the 25th of April. My question is, has anyone been called for an interview or are they just giving out offers? I'm just confused as to what the protocol of this program is!
  18. I highly recommend all of those unsuccessful applicants to listen to "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson. It makes me feel happy haha
  19. Congratulations! I logged in finally, and was not awarded the grant! Time to prepare for next year
  20. Probably! I can't even login anymore. Why me? ETA: I can login, and go to the main page with all the documents but it times out when I click "View Decision". Argh!
